because i'm not afraid to challenge conservatives to a debate no matter how outnumbered I may be (espescially on the pton thread)

We had a vote last November and the liberals won. You are in the vocal majority. ;)

good news

but, the people who respond to these threads are mostly conservative except for silmon

I wonder why that would be. :)

lol takes a bow :)

Silmon, it looks you've joined the ranks of the enlightened few [in your posting habits]. ;)

bestows laurel wreath

I don't think that most people consider liberals to be wusses unless they are hardliners/warmongers. For me, the reason why I have not solidly aligned myself with the liberals is mainly because I'm discovering that the stereotype of the "pushy liberal" is true. Political debate certainly is entertaining and it's good to get fired up once in a while :) but I think it's off putting when it appears randomly or in inappropriate places. I think that in order for the Dems to achieve success in 08, they need to stop moving more to the left as a response to the increasing conservative country. Rather, they should be more centrist. I didn't want to like Bush in 04 and honestly thought that anybody but Bush would win but there were too many radicals who alienated moderates in the Kerry camp. Our whole country needs to take a deep breath. I'm starting to get really disgusted with the increasing polarization. It makes me wonder what is really my belief and what is simply my reaction to someone else. Any responses?

actually the above post does have some merit

people registering as independent has gone up dramatically over the past few decades as the parties grew more polarized confirming that most americans fall in to a moderate majority

unfortunately, many moderates are not as politically active. as a result, the far left and the far right are the ones setting policies and making decisions that affect all of us. which only leaves more disgruntled people.

most conservatives dont know why they are conservatives......

i bet people living in red states can relate.....

my favorite quote from ADULTS before the election

"wow i didnt know kerry's last name was edwards"
comment after seeing a Kerry Edwards '04 sign

but it is true, liberals are more intelligent =D there are so many studies that prove this. but it kinda makes sense too, the more intelligent u are the more selfless and open-minded u become =D something everyone should be mwa ha ha

YES, this thread s fired up again

There was an analysis of this in the Economist some months before the election. The point they made was that the Democrats can't become centrist for two reasons: The Republicans keep on moving right (and while you'd think there'd be a point when they'd become too radical, for the time being they have leeway); and secondly there is a more extreme left that some Democrat supporters (they specifically mentioned college students) would defect to. The Democrats, much as they would have liked to, can't openly censure Michael Moore - or worse yet Lyndon LaRouche - for fear of alienating their more left wing supporters - they'd all vote Nader. So yeah - they can't become centrist.

cevonia, that's interesting. thanks. which only further affirms my thought that there is no party to vote for in america anymore.

WRONG, democrats need to form a coalition like FDR, he managed to win big by creating a coalition of people from the south, north and all different ethnicities who didnt share a common cuase bu were united in the love for FDR. THat's what we need

a few Great Societ Programs wouldnt hurt

hao, let's invent one.

hmmm...what should we call it? the republicrats? the democrublicans? or something entirely original and flashy? the pink hippos?

return of the bull moose party (all i remeber is that they were teddy roosevelts party ad they lost but they had the best name a politicla party has ever had!)

The We-will-give-you-money-to-support-us party. Now THAT would be an election winner. Oh, wait, we call them the Republicans (my not-so-subtle dig on tax cuts).

Joking aside: The All-American (know-nothing) party, Reloaded.

how bout the "civil war isnt over yet" party

lol, that's a good one...i like it :) except for then the pc people will object as the word "reloaded" has possible violent connotations.
