To Read or not to read the Blue Book's content before the Practice Tests?

What is your advice?

I didn’t read it cuz it just gives plain obvious advice.

I strongly recommend that you only use the Blue Book for the practice tests.

DrSteve, I see that you are a proficient math tutor by observing your bio. What would you recommend for a consistent 650+ Math scorer? Dr.Chung’s? Grubers?

I’m afraid that cc doesn’t allow me to answer that question. But let me give you an answer that doesn’t involve specific products.

Let me assume that your score is between a 650 and 700. You should mostly be working on Level 3 - 5 problems with an emphasis on Level 4. You may want to adjust this a bit depending on your specific ability level in each of the 4 subject areas. For example, if you are getting all Level 4 Number Theory questions right, then you may want to focus more on Level 5 Number Theory, and if you get a lot of Level 3 Geometry questions wrong, you may want to focus on Level 3 Geometry until you start getting most right, and then move up to Level 4, etc.

Here are a few tips:

(1) Try to solve each question in more than 1 way. Some possible methods are (a) using an SAT specific strategy, (b) the way you would in school, (c) the quickest way you can think of, (d) the easiest way you can think of.

(2) Mark off questions you get wrong (for WHATEVER reason), and periodically redo this until you can get each one right on your own. Make sure you leave at a least a few day befor attempting the same problem.

(3) You might want to read some of my articles. The ones posted on this forum are geared toward students going for an 800.

(4) Take between 4 and 6 college board practice SATs before the exam.
