To those of you who are into the science/math fields and have been accepted into University of Chicago: what clubs/activities were you involved in throughout high school?

[edited to delete]

nothing.....just "contests/competitions" like AMC stuff and AIME and so on..never was in a club or had activities planned out..

It really depends on what your school offers. My school had a pretty strong Math Team, a good Science Fair advising program (handful of ISEF qualifiers), and an ACM chapter, but I didn't do any of those. I focused mainly on Science Olympiad (took over my life) and did a little bit of AMC/AIME.

I enrolled in something called "Aultman Academy". It's a program affiliated with the tyrant hospital of the area. We learned about different health careers, the intricacies of the hospital, and shadowed different professionals all throughout the hospital from OR and ER to the ICU's and volunteer services. It counted as a science credit.
I bet you were looking for more of an academic challenge team deal...well, I didn't join the team :P

My S did nothing academic for ECs-- his interests were community and outdoor based.

Even though we had pretty strong AMC/AIME competition at my school, I never even took the test. Competition mathematics isn't nearly as fun as research mathematics, in my opinion. My other activities included being vice-president of Go Club (Japanese board game), and being president of Anime Club. I did mandatory community service as well (ugh).

I was accepted this year with math listed as my first major and physics as my second. I have never done either outside of school. My ECs were two varsity sports (I'm not doing either in college), school newspaper, and a little volunteer work.

S is a math/CS major. Did some math competitions, but not all of them, and never progressed to the upper echelons. He is very much a theory guy. However, he went very deep with CS stuff, in competitions, school club, teaching and leadership. Also spent much time on CS/math research. Did Ultimate Frisbee, online newspaper staff, philosophy club, and community service as well.

S went deep in his true areas of interest rather than broad. Worked in terms of honors and awards, and w/admissions to the schools he really cared about attending.

My son is sort of "science-lite". He took lots of science courses in high school, is acting like he's a pre-med in college, is very interested in history of science. But he never got into the science competition circuit. His main ECs were Drama Club (acting, directing, president), Academic Team (captain two years), volunteer work in a paleontology lab, a paying job in retail, and dance.

It's interesting that there are all sorts represented here.

Possible maths major in the Class of 2012 here. I went to two international school maths competitions, didn't place. No clubs at my school, Lots of community service, Linux User Group.

Science Olympiad team, took honors theoretical math course at state university (foundation for main essay), independent science research, Chemistry lab aide, volunteered at nearby science center (~420 hrs), summer program at MIT

I did the Indiana Junior Academy of Science (Problem Solving exam - 2nd place), Envirothon, the Brain Bee, all my senior year. I had done science fair 7th through 10th grade, but never placed. I also did Biomechanics research at a nearby university Senior year. Up until then, I'd just taken a tough courseload in science and math.
