I go to orientation on Tuesday and was checking online to see what courses were available and when they were offered. I noticed that there are like 2 seats left in the entire honors english section and about five left(total not in each) in all of the offered honors colloquia. The honors students were told to take the english one semester and the colloquia the other semester... it's looking like I may be taking neither because they're all going to be filled. Are these numbers correct? I'm just a bit peeved and I hate that I'm going in with a bad attitude. I had one of the first dates and then changed because of a conflict. I was assured by the staff that there would be plenty of classes left because they limited registration on each date.

Anyone know? Did you all get the courses/time/professors you wanted?

Hey, I am in the honors program and I had an early orientation date. First, freshmen students have very little say when choosing the times of classes. At orientation, I got my third choice honors colloqium, which isn't that bad now that think about it because all we do is go to free concerts and listen to music in class. Also, I didn't get a lot of the electives that I wanted. The numbers you saw might be wrong, because it says that there are still 2 seats left in my colloqium class. You also need to remember that you can, and probably will, take the honors english class second semester.

I'm also in the honors program and had an early orientation date, and I didn't have any problems with my schedule. It could be because my major (communications) only had 2 required classes, so less conflict of times with required courses. I got my first choice for the honors english class, magic and the unknown, and the electives I wanted. While there, I didn't hear of anyone having problems with seats filling up, but I hear it's very common to not get your first choice, or even second. I heard a few people that had problems with classes that conflicted with times of other classes, which made them take others they didn't want to. I also don't think you have much say in the times or professors - the advisor writes down the class names and sends it away for people to make. I think what might help is if you have a relatively early registration time - I think it starts at like 12:30 or 1, maybe the sooner you do it the less chance you have of the seats for the day being filled? They tell you your time when you get there, no idea if you can do anything about it.
jamminjb5, which colloqium are you taking? It sounds fun :)

My only advice with respect to registration and classes is become good friends with your advisor - visit them often. I was tight with my advisor and any time a conflict came up (two classes that overlap by 5mins and you can't register for them, too many credits or no seats), you can often get 'permitted' into the class with the help of your advisor.
