To what degree is class rank considered by colleges?

I’m currently a sophomore in high school and ranked 10th out of about 600 students with a 4.375 weighted/4.0 unweighted GPA. I want to be valedictorian because my school, to my knowledge, isn’t known for its academics (or athletics really); we’re just a school in central Florida that kind of houses kids from a bunch of different areas. I know for a fact that the number one person in my class has a 4.5 GPA, and the only reason I do not have the number one spot is because I was, against my wishes, forced to take a 4.0 online class as a virtual school class is required to graduate now. I know for a fact that I have more knowledge and studying ability than pretty much anyone in my class, I’m just very irritated at the fact that I might not be recognized for it and have no proof of it on my resume since there is a chance I won’t be valedictorian or salutatorian. I’ve lately been obsessed with trying to figure out ways to pass the class rankings, but in the case I cannot, can someone with more life experience than me tell me how much class rank matters when applying to college? I know it varies from university to university, but generally speaking, does it have that big of an impact? Also, I am really interested in attending post secondary education in South Korea and, though I know it’s kind of specific, want to know if anyone can tell me the kinds of things that Korean colleges look for in international students?

google the “common data set” of a few colleges. In section C, they list the importance of various criteria, including class ranking

^ Agreed. It varies by college.

Go to collegeboard.org and search the schools you are curious about. It will be under the tab See if you’re on track then Where do I stack up?
