too early for graduate school?

I have to decide whether I want to apply for masters program so start in fall 2010, or fall 2011.

I could start for fall 2010, but that means at the time of my application i'd have about 3 quarters to go (winter, spring, summer) before I get my BS in electrical engineering. That's probably the majority of serious EE related coursework ahead of me. Plus, I would not have as much research experience at that point. I would apply with some internships/jobs/research, but grades to show for only 5 EE courses (+2 more completed but probably won't be able to get grades in time for application)

So....is it bad idea to apply? Should I just wait a year, get more research/internships etc?
Can anyone give me insight about this...am I expected to be further along before I apply for an MS program?

The problem is, if I apply for 2011 instead of 2010 I will have several quarters to do absolutely nothing before I start the MS program(i'm planning to graduate about 2 quarters early), and I think thats a waste of time!

Thanks!

I’m in a somewhat similar situation, only thing different is that my dilemma exists due to my poor marks for earning chances for graduate school acceptance, in the mean time I wish not to waste time before the start of the next recruiting season. You may want to try applying for some graduate diploma or graduate certificate programs that last maybe 2-3 semesters to fill up the gap? will earn you some decent stuff to add onto the resume, and doesn’t hurt to study more ;)

If cost isn’t too much of an issue, apply to programs that you would attend if admitted; next year, apply more liberally to reach and safety schools
