Too old?

Hello guys,
So I’m currently 18 and graduating from high school this year. I’ve decided to take a gap year to take care of some businesses and prepare myself for university. So by the time I get to college I’ll be around 19 years old, but I’m afraid that’s too late. What do you think?

Why would it be too late? There’s no difference between an eighteen-year-old and a nineteen-year-old. People of all ages can go to college; there was an 80-year-old in my linear algebra class.

I guess I should ask more questions, though. Have you applied to colleges this year, or will you be applying next year? Do you know what college you’ll be attending? Have they allowed you to defer your enrollment until next year?

Do you have anything specific planned for the gap year? What does “taking care of businesses” mean? What will you do to prepare for college? A gap year could be a waste of time if you don’t do anything, but a lot of gap-year students do better in college because they’re more mature when they start. (I might have taken a gap year if they were more popular in the United States. Unless you have a lot of money, it’s hard to find things to do other than working at a minimum-wage job. There are summer internships for high school students, but gap year internships don’t seem to exist.)

Not at all too late.

I appreciate the fast response.
No I haven’t applied to any college yet. I’m not just taking the gap year to rest and put a year between my high school and college. I’ve planned to get my citizenship (since I’m a foreigner), and do some pre-college studying to prepare myself even more. Beside that I want to start doing physical exercising to get in the right shape just in case I want to join a team in college (I’ve been swimming for 12 years and there has been a gap of 2 years in my swimming career). Lastly I think that I’m sort of mentally tired and can’t use all the potential and focus on college as a fresh mind would.

Better than turning 18 in your freshman year of college (me). I can’t even get my temps till March 2016. I’m class of 2018 lol
