Since I could remember, I have always dreamed of going to Harvard. I am only in the seventh grade and am wondering if any of you could give me some tips on what I could do to increase my chances while I'm in middle school.

I have a 4.0 GPA and have recently received The President's Volunteer Service award for completing 100 hours of logged community service in one year. I plan to keep doing as much as community service as I can. My school doesn't offer any extra curriculars, excluding sports. I participate in swimming and am thinking about trying out for Ann Arbor Arsenal Soccer, which is a travelling soccer league for talented competitors. I am 1st chair alto saxophone in the 7th grade band. I have had perfect attendance every year since Kindergarten, except last year. I was also wondering if a 6th grade in-school suspension would affect my chances? I am thinking of asking my mom to get it taken off my record, even though she is the one who asked the principal to give it to me because a kid said I was calling him names. I remember sitting in the suspension room, with the drug dealers, crackheads, etc. and I was sitting there, crying. I didn't even care of having to sit there without any contact with any of my friends, it was just the fact that it was going on my record. I was thinking, now no Ivy League school is going to accept me. I'm never going to harvard. I'm a good kid and have never gotten yelled at or in trouble, by the school administration, besides this time. But that is in the past, and I will try to forget it as time passes.

Any opinons would be appreciated. Thank you.

Way too soon to tell. Pick the hardest classes you can. Take the SAT IIs as soon as you finish your classes. Pick EC's you'll stick with all four years. Start preping for SAT now. Think about getting a job. Don't waste your summers. Research and make sure you find the perfect school. Don't get in trouble. Enjoy life, we're only young once. princetonreview.com has an awesome college match.

dude what the hell is wrong with you. what happened last year? Harvard has no room for slackers who decide not to go to school. Ur attendance will be on ur transcript, and its the FIRST THING COLLEGES LOOK AT. In fact, they don't care as much about ur GPA, SATs, or any of that stuff as much as they do about ur attendance. Ur already screwed man, u have no chance at Harvard now. U better start hanging with those 7th grade drug dealers, cuz buddy, that's where ur headed.

Acutally NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO GET STARTED FOR COLLEGES

It is actually is good to get started now for colleges because you really want to plan ahead. At first try to make get some leads on a major. Just think about some. You don't have to choose now.

Second I would try to complete Algebra 1 and Geometry Now. I think some schools offer them. But if they don't I'd check summer school.

Also I would try to get some EC's. Just starting thinking about interests and find Ec's that follow.

Make Sure that you are a good student. Like you take good notes, can read fast, etc.

These are just things I would do now. I guess this is a good "list". Good Luck

in the 7th grade... I didnt even know what an IVY LEAGUE was ...! Its pretty sickening that grammar school kids have to worry about getting into a great college like Harvard...Johnatan, I really do not think you have to worry about this now! Did you even take the tachs, coop, isee (east coast exams) or other tests to get into high school?? I will prob. get critcism for this, put I know plenty of people who got into Ivy league insitutions -Number one, they did not worry about it in grammar school or even in high school... how did they get in your ask? They did the things they liked to do.. joined the clubs they wanted... they did not join a club to be a president or join an organization just to get credit .. they did it because they wanted to do it.. they're mentality was NOT to do everything for college ...how can you live like that? I am telling you, when you look back on your childhood years, you will wonder why you spent your time worrying ... I can tell you are a very dedicated young man who has a lot of potenital... I just hope you are doing things because you want, not because "it will look good on my college app in 6 years". Have hope! (And in 6 years, if you do not get in- its okay ...you can go to another school and STILL make something out of your life... my uncle went to a crappy college and is now one of the main reps. of a huge company... college is not everything - although this site tends to think that..... Did Trump go to an Ivy League? What about Oprah? How about Dr.Phil, or many of the other most succsessful people in the world)..... sorry about my rant, I just get frustrated when people believe that getting into Harvard or any Ivy is the best thing their is... do what you like and everything else will fall into place... good luck =)

Actually the two richest men in the world right now (beating even the third ranked by more than $10 billion) graduated from top Ivies
Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard, and Warren Buffett went to Columbia and Wharton.

Dude - I'm applying now but I never even considered Ivy League until 12th grade...Until they released that financial aid policy that attracted so much attention it wasn't even an option...

Damn dude, your parents subjected you to the dregs of 7th grade society. You, in that room with a bunch of doped-up lowlifes, what a travesty. I'd say your chances of acceptance at Harvard are 75-85%.

thuff30 there is no way anyone could possibly predict his chances or give a percent. Admissions decisions are based on high school activities and grades which none of us know at this time. It was nice of you anyway though to boost his confidence

Yeah, they won't see that suspension. Generally(in my district at least), you get a clean record in high school. Middle school and elementary school are "practice years" for discipline and grades. You don't really have to do well (some places you don't even have to pass) or have a perfect record... just learn the material front and back so you will do well in college ;). Like me: in elementary through middle school, I had at least 20 suspensions for things like fighting, selling prescription drugs (sold my ADHD medication to high schoolers, hehe... good times), etc.; one expulsion for hijacking the districts network of at least 40,000 computers, I didn't really pass any of my classes until middle school. ****, I was bad, LOL. But, I haven't done anything in highschool. I checked my record and it is squeaky clean :-D.

But, even though I didn't get good marks in my lower years, I still managed to learn the material. So, I'm doing well now. #8 in my class, nice SAT score, etc etc. You know, that stuff people see that automatically makes you "smart" (I love how numbers can make you seem smart when all you need is a few moments of study each night to score high on a stupid 4 hour test, LOL). Sorry, I'm going to stop ranting. But, don't worry about the suspension.

Vinny, I agree with you completely. The only thing you should break your back on for colleges are 1)filling out those damn college apps and take up your time. and 2)studying for your SATs. I knew I wanted to go to a great college, especially Harvard, in middle school. But, I didn't worry about it then. I just did what I did and said to myself "If they like me they like me, if they don't they don't".
