So Im thinking about courses for freshman year and am wondering if this is too tough.

Autumn
Chem 31X
Chem 34X
Turkish Language I
CME 100
Thinking Matters (Science of Mythbusters)
18 Units

Winter
Physics 41
CME 102
PWR 1
Turkish Language II
18 Units

Spring
Physics 43/44
Chem 33
CME 104
Turkish Language III
19 Units

Im also planning on devoting 12-14 hours on research per week in the field of biophysics/cancer research at the medical school. Ive already taken AP Chem and gotten a 5, AP Physics B and gotten a 5, Vector Calculus and Linear Algebra. ANy thoughts?

I think this schedule is doable, but it has a chance to make your freshman year a bit stressful. Students always say that during your first quarter freshman year, you should budget in an additional 3-4 units for getting settled here at Stanford. Chem, Physics and CME are all definitely great series to finish your freshman year, but don’t feel like you have to get through ALL of them before the end of your first year. What major are you trying to go towards? (my guess is humbio or maybe BioE?) That would definitely help in assessing how much time you have to get your intro classes out of the way.

My one suggestion to loosen things up a bit would be to just push the turkish to sophomore year. None of our abroad programs use Turkish as a required language so holding off on it for a year shouldn’t mess up your plans. (Unless you’re planning on doing an abroad program outside of Stanford…)

Also, remember this is your freshman year. Make sure to schedule in some fun!! One thing I highly recommend is trying to fit in a class or two that sounds interesting/enjoyable to you outside of your intro classes. (Maybe is that Turkish for you?) Whether it’s a 4 unit seminar class or a 1 unit athletics class, Stanford has a TON of cool specialized classes that you might miss out on if you’re focusing solely on your requirements. All of these classes PLUS a part-time research job is going to have you working quite a bit and you’ll quickly realize that life here at Stanford is much more than just work. Make sure you think about the non-work aspect of Stanford life as well when building your schedule.

so i think i want to keep turkish, but to add in some seminars i might change it to

Autumn
Chem 31X
Chem 34X
Science of Mythbusters
Turkish
Pathology Seminar/Biochem Seminar
14-16 Units

Winter
PWR I
Math 53
Physics 41/42
Turkish
19 Units

Spring

how intense are the languages at Stanford?
