Took fall semester off, currently in spring semester and already want to transfer. Should I wait?

To whoever is out there that can help- I am in much need of advice.
I am currently an undergrad freshman. I took the fall semester off of school for financial reasons. My dad got laid off, I wasn’t in the best mental state; it was really just an accumulation of a bunch of things that were weighing on my life, particularly in the academic field. I enrolled in the spring and am doing very well. I have straight As as of now. On top of that, I was recommended by my professor to apply for an internship with her help, to the french embassy. I got it. I have been working there, with no extra time to spare for myself and my personal life. Prior to this semester, I had a job interning as a public relations coordinator at a local Italian company. To sum it up, I feel like my life is basically on hold at the moment. I am living at home, with my parents, and have no social life. I had my fun in high school… I didn’t do poorly in school, but my grades were very average, finishing senior year with a 4.3 GPA (weighted of course). My dream is to transfer to New York- either Barnard of NYU. Do you think I can try to apply for the fall semester of this year? Or should I wait until next spring, so that they can see my transcript for a whole year in the university that I am currently attending? Do you think the NY colleges will take my internships into consideration? These were both hard jobs to get. The only reason why I got them is because I speak four languages- Russian, French and Italian, along with English of course. What should I do? Wait another half a year to start my life in New York, or take a shot for a sooner prospect? I hope someone can help me.

It sounds like the internship is causing a lot of unhappiness. Do you need to do it for financial reasons? If not, I think you should consider giving it up. Can you afford the cost of living if you transfer to NY? You need to have a discussion with your parents about what is financially feasible before you make any decisions. I am thinking that becasue you live at home, living on campus is too expensive. Maybe you can cut your hours. Join some clubs at school, volunteer if you can. Stick out your internship for 6 months, then get a less pressured job. Good luck.

Are you at a community college now, or are you at a 4-year college/university?

Did you apply anywhere last year? If so, where were you admitted besides the place where you are studying now?

You need to contact both Barnard, NYU, and the other places on your possible application list, and find out if you would be considered a freshman applicant or a transfer applicant at this point. For some places, you might still be a freshman applicant.

If you can apply as a freshman or as a transfer now, there is no reason to wait to do so. If you aren’t accepted, you can continue at your current institution and try again in the future.

My internship is actually the only that I am enjoying at the moment. It is a non-paying internship, so it’s not helping me financially. That’s not the case. I could take a loan if I go to a school in New York and I’ll find a way to pay for my day to day expenses. I just need to know if I can get in

I am at the University of Miami, which is a private university. I was admitted to Boston University, George Washington University, and Fordham, among other schools which weren’t of much interest to me.

You can only borrow $5,500 per year – that isn’t going to make much of a dent in the schools you are talking about. I think you should take @happymomof1’s advice, but you can only transfer if the finances work.
