Top 10 NCAA Div 1 Schools: "Graduation-Success Rates" of student athletes

...not exactly the same metric as graduation rates reported in a school's CDS or USNews.....

Top 10
1st- Notre Dame & Colgate
3rd- Navy
4th- Wofford, New Hampshire, Northwestern, Lafayette, Furman, Duke, Davidson, Holy Cross

I'm a little surprised that no Ivies made this list.

ps....grad success rates sport-by-sport are also discussed....lacrosse was #1 mens sport, football worst. Women's best: skiing; bowling worst.

Holy Cross, Duke, ND, and Davidson are usually the leaders in athletic grad rates every year.

I suspect that’s because the Ivies don’t provide athletic scholarships, hence they’re not counted in the NCAA graduation data.

Examining the NCAA website reveals that the Ivies do not present athletic graduation data.

[2009 NCAA Division I Graduation Success Rate (GSR) Data - NCAA.org](http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?key=/ncaa/ncaa/academics+and+athletes/education+and+research/academic+reform/gsr/2009/841gfw951_2009_d1_school_gsr_data.html)

I think that this data is too limited in what it says. The frequent objection to student-athletes and whether they “deserve” a place at a highly selective college is usually not directed at the student on the Track team or the Golf team or the Water Polo Team. The usual beef is with the high profile and truly national sports of football, basketball, and baseball.

In making these comparisons, the GSR data does not include all of the Division I colleges as some don’t officially offer athletic scholarships, eg, the Ivies. However, the Ivies do provide data for a related NCAA measurement called the Academic Progress Rate and one can measure their student-athletes vs other programs from similarly structured Patriot League colleges to the major Division I colleges that play in the nationally relevant conferences.

For the major sports of football, mens basketball, and baseball, here are the latest 6-year Academic Progress to Graduation Rate figures for the Ivies and Patriot League and the other Division I colleges ranked in the USNWR Top 50:
