Top 10 Reasons to Attend UA....I'm sure we can think of more!

^^^I had not seen this, and, now that I have wiped the tears from my eyes, I am even prouder of The University of Alabama than ever. Thank you for bring it over…ROLL TIDE!!!

I love the fact that the professors represent a wide range of political opinions – not just Hard Left, as in so many schools – and they don’t shove their views down the kids’ throats. If it’s a history class, it’s about the historical evidence, not about the Inherent Utter Evil of Everything America Has Ever Done Anywhere.

Apart from that, I love…everything! What y’all said!

bump for our new visitors :)

Thanks for sharing the link. An inspiring story of personal strength and the changing of our national character. So impressed with UA for embracing it. I will be showing this to DD when she gets home from school.

Excellent, top-ranked Public Relations undergrad program!!!

"Among the many reasons I love UA is its decision to publically acknowledge its sins and honor its true heroes . . . in perpetuity. As a child of the '60s, I never fail to get chills when walking through Malone-Hood Plaza. It speaks volumes to me.

http://malonehoodplaza.ua.edu/

Let’s also don’t forget that prejudice and discrimination aren’t just a southern phenomenon. It was just more visible in the south because of segregation and Jim Crow laws.

Let’s don’t forget that terrible abuses continue today.

Here’s a good story about George Wallace. There’s hope for everyone.

[Black preacher: Why I forgave George Wallace – CNN Belief Blog - CNN.com Blogs](http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/11/black-preacher-why-i-forgave-george-wallace/)

Let’s also don’t forget that prejudice and discrimination aren’t just a southern phenomenon. It was just more visible in the south because of segregation and Jim Crow laws.

This is very true. I’m from Calif, and there is plenty of prejudice and discrimation going on there between various ethnic groups (Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Whites, etc). My H is from the midwest (Chicago area) and he often said that racial prejudice is common there as well.

That’s why I often roll my eyes when non-southerners post holier-than-thou accusations that they could never live or go to school in the south because of its history. Their own regions have their own skeletons…and many are still on-going.

Let’s get back to the point of this thread, the University of Alabama. It’s not about whether there’s prejudice or discrimination in Kahului or Oshkosh. And it’s not about George Wallace, even if one thinks he was a swell guy for asking forgiveness after being gunned down.

The impact of visible, institutionalized segregation and Jim Crow laws cannot, and should not, be minimized. Nearly 50 years after UA was integrated, the echoes of history still give many people pause when they contemplate whether or not 'Bama is right for them or their children.

The so-called good story about George Wallace is really a story about the spirit of the African-Americans who suffered under his cruelty, persevered until they forged progress, and then forgave him while vowing never to forget. UA has memorialized this spirit to welcome one and all – and to remind us not to repeat history. This is the University of Alabama in the 21st century.

Did I miss something? Who minimized the impact of segregation and Jim Crow laws?

We should not forget about past, but we should also not neglect the present. The deplorable racism in Hawaii is an example that we still have a long way to go regarding race relations in this country.

The apparent redemption of George Wallace is a feel good story as is the forgiveness offered by members of the black community.

By the way, how do you forgive and not forget? Aren’t they part and parcel?

As per a request on a different thread…yes here it is…The top 10 reasons to attend Bama…and of course additional stuff could be added now since this is a year old and Bama is doing great things in many areas  Enjoy!

The quarter BILLION dollar investment into the College of Engineering!

The amazing opportunities for so many students!

I will add Dr. and Mrs. Batson in Civil Engineering and Computer Based Honors, respectively, as a top reason to attend UA. These individuals appeared on our son’s pro/con list for his college decision (the PRO column, of course!)
