<p>i think it is hilarious when a friend asks me what school i will be applying to.. When i say "pomona" they always give me this "haha you are so dumb" look only to research and realize that it is one of the most selective schools in the nation. LOL
but i am still terribly worried about applying, whether or not i will get in..haha</p>
<p>back to the top reasons:
they chlorinate the water-fountains, David Foster Wallace</p>
<p>I am so excited/nervous...there is a part of my application that is similar to this...x) I hope they like it.</p>

<p>Yup. FOUNTAINING!!! =P</p>
<p>hahah! when i was on a tour at pomona and cmc, they mentioned that! i thought that it was really cool. even though it isnt something extremely great, the whole idea of it seems to shout "FAMILY" to me.. it is just these little things, i presume, that shows that pomona's students are more tightly bound together...</p>
<p>It's one thing that attracts me to Pomona, I have to say...the whole concept is so devilish and ritualistic yet exciting. :) Just like everything else about Pomona! (Well, minus the ritualistic part ahaha)</p>
<p>As seen from Foothill Blvd. this Monday. Today they were even nicer and it was in the high 60's:

<p>I know man, the mountains are looking good after the rain</p>
<p>And they chlorinate the fountains because it is warm and sunny here. If they didn't the algae would take over and they'd be green, slimy messes.</p>
<p>I saw a good picture my friend took on that same day with palm trees in the foreground, snowy peaks in the distance and beautiful clear blue skies. It really makes you realize how spoiled you are (weather-wise) as a student</p>
<p>Do people really rely on this form of transportation? How late does it run in both directions? And then do you have to take a taxi to get around once you are in L.A.?</p>
<p>I use the metrolink a good deal and so do my friends. The metrolink connects you to Los Angeles Union Station and from there you can take buses and underground trains to get around the city. You don't need to use a taxi. However, it does not run that late which sucks pretty bad. My friend and I really wanted to go to a night baseball game but can't because we can't get back once we get to union station. But it works pretty well and chances are you will have a friend with a car to take you places you might need to go.</p>
<p>Zipcars are also on campus, so you can take a hybrid out at anytime to do anything, and not have to worry about paying for gas (just a $5/hr fee)</p>

<p>naw, seriously, pomona's a reasonably cool place. just not as cool as its smaller neighbor.</p>
<p>oh dear... let's not get into a CMC vs. Pomona argument... There was a huge and rather ugly debate this year in the 5 Cs newspaper about which school was better and I think it encouraged more animosity than usual between the two schools. The thing is both schools are great and it just makes us all out to be jerks if we get into arguments about which is better. One of the things I love about Pomona is that it is part of the 5 Cs community as a whole. I know people from all 5 Cs (fewer from CMC than the others, but still) and I love how I can have friends from each school. I don't like when Pomona students have an elitist attitude because I have friends from each school and I don't like when CMC students have a similarly elitist attitude. I think we should all recognize that each school has great strengths.</p>

<p>hmm... I certainly would not have called it a "huge and rather ugly debate" in the newspaper. Basically all that happened was a CMC student wrote about how CMC should be ranked higher and why it's disadvantaged compared to Pomona or something like that. Basically he was just reacting to Karl Rove's ill-timed joke that CMC was a second-choice school to Pomona.</p>
<p>And then a couple Pomona students wrote in saying that we shouldn't be comparing schools and should be more united than divided... stuff like that.</p>
<p>So unless I missed an important article... I didn't see it as very bad at all.</p>

<p>Just a side note in response to one of the earlier list points:</p>

<p>I am applying to HMC. If I get in, I'm going. </p>
<p>Most people I tell Harvey Mudd say, "Why do you want to go to Harvard Med?" Then I say, no it's Har-vey Mudd. They say "haven't heard of it."</p>
<p>Then I say, you know Pomona? They (about 98% of the time) say, oh, yeah! I then explain the 5-C bit.</p>
<p>Moral of the story: I think Pomona is pretty well known, at least where I'm from (Colorado ftw!)</p>
