I made a video highlighting things I wish I knew about college life prior to starting college. Check it out here. Top 10 Things We Wish We Knew Before Starting Col…: https://youtu.be/bsJuAiv6Rb0
I think it’s really impressive that the two of you are both named Chase. What are the chances!
(lol.)
- Know the graduation requirements early on - helps you know what you will be getting yourself into, and you can plan classes more easily.
Also, get a bicycle. Best way to commute if you live on the other side of campus.
I knew this, but others did not:
If you drink too much, you will eat too much pizza and get fat. Physique helps with popularity. Go to parties, but don’t drink. Just chat. And go home by 2AM.
I agree, I don’t drink ( for multiple reasons)
@traveller2013 where do you go to college?
@preamble1776 Thanks!
Does anyone have something to add to our list? We may make a part two?
Some things that I wish I’d known before starting freshman year:
- if there's something you didn't understand in lecture, go to the professor's office hours & ask.
- this sounds obvious, but if a reading assignment is given, follow through an actually read the book.
- stay on top of your workload & learn how to manage your time well.
- this is also obvious, but watch out for each other if you go out and 'party' on weekends. Stay safe. This goes for men AND women. Remember the buddy system back in elementary school? It works in college, too.
- it's normal to feel homesick once in awhile.
- textbooks cost a lot of $$. Expect some sticker shock.
- be mindful of what you post on social media. A few years down the road when you are applying for a full time job after college, potential employers WILL look you up. So be wise about how you set up your online profiles. It would really suck if you got an interview with THE top employer in your field, but your opportunity was flushed down the toilet because of some stupid pictures you took of yourself in precarious positions while on spring break.
NEVER buy textbooks. Rent them
If you’re taking a foundational class in your major, you might want to buy the book so you can reference it later. I would rent it first and see if it’s a good book, though (you can just pay the difference at the end of the semester).
All good comments, Thanks guys and gals!
