Do things just for college, who cares if you like it [sic] or not. Passion be damned.

hahaha actually thisyearsgirl, I somewhat agree with spydertennis, and many people said that if he get's into harvard he'll be right and if not then he's wrong, but the sad thing is he will probably get into Harvard (supposed to be like 75% admit rate from RSI).

why is that sad?

I hate those dumb$$ 8th graders that come on here and ask "Hi, um.. I would like to get into Harvard.. Please Please tell me how many hours a day I need to study for the SAT from now until Junior year.. please? I know you guys are smart, please help me. I am aiming for 2380+ so that harvard will take me Thanks"

I feel like punching them :)

zogoto: i don't know if you read the whole thread, but i wrote about it more elaborately here. the question isn't whether it'll get him into harvard, because his resume is obviously impeccable, but whether he'll be happy while he's getting there or if he'll be putting off happiness indefinitely until he's reached some abstract definition of success. or, let's say, what kind of person i personally would want to hire at my company assuming that i had one. accomplishments are important, but so is character, warmth, and enthusiasm.

but then i'm just a bleeding-heart liberal, so what do i know?

edit: there is more than one way to get into a top school, and you might as well enjoy yourself while you're working at it.

"So should I go to a crappy state college and save the money for grad schools or do grad schools really look at undergrad or not?"

This one makes me want to hunt down the writer. I hate the anti-state/public school sentiment here.

I've taken a recent hating towards all the parents who brag like crazy about their kids.

"My daughter got honor roll."

Don't you hate those stickers that say "My son/daughter is an honor student at (Fill in name) high school.

I have news for them, usually being an honor student requires like a 3.0 GPA which I could get in my sleep.

I really hate the bragging parents around here. I've read threads on the parents forum where people will ask for help and parents will come on their thread and say, "Well your 3.whatever is crap, my daughter got a 3.9."

"My son isn't liking school lately, it's too easy for him and he's not getting the proper advanced education he deserves."

I just want to kill those kind of parents.

Do you listen to George Carlin at all? He had a section of one of his DVDs/specials about these type of parents and the bumper stickers that they put on their cars. It's really funny.

No, I've never listened to him. I think I will though. Sounds like he's cool.

Yeah I hate those kind of parents, seriously. All these parents were like retarded in school, so they pressure the hell out of their kids so that they can live vicariously through the glory of their fabulous cheerleading, preppy, straight A kids.

Haha! My brother and I were both honor students, but my mom had the bumpersticker that says, "My kid beat up your honor student." I think she was referring more to my brother than me ... ;)

All the kids in 8th grade had their stickers about being honor students. I didn't even get one because I was gone the day they gave them out.

I was valedictorian of my middle school. I felt like spraypainting, "My kid kicked your kid's ass academically and physical, middle school class of 03' Valedictorian/Bully.

what about:
"I am a homophobic neo-nazi, what are my chances of getting into Bin Laden University?"

I hate when people say "Bush should win the Nobel Prize!!"

Texas I agree with what you said. It's like so easy to be an honor student. For our school the honor roll is for people with 3.5+. 3.5 frankly is really easy to get. You can get in with like 2-3 Bs and even a C+. People who have the stickers have pride in their children or themselves, but i really don't that is anything to brag about. Come on about 50 people are on the list.

"I've taken a recent hating towards all the parents who brag like crazy about their kids."

Ahaha, you hardly ever get that with Asian folks.

I don't really think you can generalize like that. I really didn't pay attention to the ethnicity of those who had obnoxious stickers on their vehicles.

I generally like Asians though, "generally", "generalize," there I just did it. I don't mind generalizing in a flattering manner I suppose.

I don't think I have met an Asian who is conceited like that. It was more those California blonde families with the kids that were barely pulling the 3.0 while their parents were high society and wanted to flaunt whatever they could.

"Community College? What? Are you kidding me? There is no way I'd ever go there.(Implied: 'I'm too good for community college')"

Sheez, some people on CC do go to community college, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Speaking of community college, I hate the mentality around here about ivy league or community college.

I've seen threads where imperfect scholars ask about their chances at an ivy league. Then someone posts who does not think they have a chance. They don't say, "Maybe you should consider the lower half of the top tier, or the second tier." They don't even suggest state universities. It's right down to, "You should consider community college."

By that I'm not saying community college is bad, I'm just saying, this is America, there are colleges for everyone.

stop talking

Are you saying that to me?

Whoever you're saying it to, I don't see a reason why anyone should stop talking.
