I am still in HS, and I am wondering what are the true top 5-10 chemE schools. I live in illinois, and so I would be paying only $30,000 for instate at UIUC, but I could also go to UW madison, which is ranked higher in USNWR, (I know rankings like USNWR aren't everything, that is why I am asking this question). Also I like Cornell alot and I could probably afford it. Finally, in USNWR I was surprised to see UM twin cities in the number 3 spot.

So, does this all mean anything. Is any of these school significantly better than the other or is it all pretty much even as far a job prospects/co-ops/other things I have not mentioned?

"so I would be paying only $30,000 for instate at UIUC"

for INSTATE tuition? Really? Ouch!

Tom,

First, I feel that rankings aren't the best way to really judge schools. Yet, if you must look at the rankings, I don't feel there is a significant difference between #3 and #5 or #8. #4 and #324, maybe but when they are so close--it shouldn't really matter. Typically if the school has a reputable name and strong department, recruiters will come and you shouldn't have a problem getting a job. I say that you visit the schools and see which one fits you better-academically, socially and financially.

OK, thanks, I just didnt know if they were so close, or if there really was a difference
