Looking for Alaska (9th)
Night (8th, 11th)
A Raisin in the Sun (10th)

I’m sure this list will change though, as my IB English class (both this year and next) is said to read a lot of really great books.

bump!!!

The Scarlet Pimpernel (9th)

I don’t know why but I just love A Tale of Two Cities. I just think the plot is so original and that, even though it’s predictable it’s like, that’s genius! I’m currently reading Ethan Frome in English and I like it so far, it’s a new style that I haven’t read before.

Bump!!!

Gone with the Wind (10th)

Didn’t really appreciate Midsummer Night’s Dream when I first read it in 7th grade, but fell in love with it when I was Helena in this year’s fall drama production.

As a side note, SO jealous of those who have read Looking for Alaska in school. That would have to be my favorite book of all time.

Among the most despised: Bleak House, Jane Eyre, Heart of Darkness.

How could you not like Heart of Darkness? That book is arguably one of the best pieces of literature ever written in the Western world.

1) To Kill A Mockingbird
2) The Great Gatsby (I hate Daisy, though. Urgh.)
3) The Scarlett Letter (YES, people. I liked it.)
4) Of Mice and Men
5) The Awakening (powerful novel.)

The Great Gatsby and To Kill A Mockingbird are quite amazing novels. They top my list by far. :)

I only have two…
The Great Gatsby
The Glass Menagerie

Right now we are reading A Raisin in the Sun, and I hate it.

1) City of Thieves
2) Mudbound
3) Mother Night
4) To Kill a Mockingbird
5) The Reluctant Fundamentalist

My Top 5:

1.) The Red Badge of Courage (Excellent Novel)
2.) Hamlet
3.) Frankenstein
4.) Of Mice and Men
5.) Death Be Not Proud

My Most Hated Novel: Tess of the D’Urbervilles (most boring, depressing novel I have ever had to read)

1984 (my favorite book ever)

Frankenstein

To Kill a Mockingbird

Of Mice and Men

Grapes of Wrath

The Great Gatsby

A Separate Peace

Ordinary People

Animal Farm

Honorable Mentions: Hedda Gabler, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and The Giver

Ok, now you could put as many books as you want…

Best mention for worst (sorry had to include ;p)- Scarlet Letter (the language, oh the language, the ridiculous characters, the endless “symbols”. I could barely read this) 10th grade

Anyway to the real list

5) Catcher in the Rye-You can really hear and connect to Holden. Yes, this is not the most complex or breathtaking story, but it does tell a tale and tells it well (10th grade)
4) Faust- (11th grade)
3) Othello- Because of Iago, an amazing character (9th grade)
2) 1984- I accidentally spoiled myself when reading this, but it was just pure excellence (11th grade)

No books really from this year (12th grade), but so far, I would have to say Handmaiden’s tale was the best (even though it is so messed up)

The Outsiders (9th)
Catcher and the Rye (10th)
The Stranger (11th)
The metamorphosis (12th)
1984 (12th)
