List who you think are the top 5 greatest Americans ever to exist. My list would go like this:

Ben Franklin (total playboy and inventor)

Teddy Roosevelt (CMH winner and killed many elephants)

LeBron James (the chosen one)

Joe Vorell (would be higher but still very young)

Robert E. Lee (best military strategist ever)

ML King

BIll Clinton (no rude comments pelase)
Al Sharpton(SIKE)

UHH.. I have to say Malcolm X

My man Abe

Watson n Crick..they are a 'team'

I don't really see how Lee can be a "great American" considering how he was trying to destroy the United States of America and democracy itself =P

My list (in no particular order)

Margaret Sanger
Lincoln
Thoreau, Emerson, etc.
Hamilton
MLK

not that i agree lee is one of the greatest, he is applicable bc he's a great american as in country of birth...we're talking about his mind here not his motivations...

Joev, I can't believe you put the unchosen one (lebron) on your list, one day you will see the light!

Jimmy Carter-terrible president, but real intellectual
Thomas Jefforson-loved the man and the president
Bill Clinton-2nd greatest president ever
Robert E. Lee- I love this guy, he was so loyal to the south, and even as a black, I don't support slavery, he rocked
MLK junior-stands as a symbol of past in a way not a lot of others do

Abraham Lincoln ( an ugly American with a great mind and deeply passionate about the rights of all mankind)

John Adams (without his sometimes crass enthusiasm and perseverance we wouldn't have the US)

Jonas Salk (discovered the ultimate cure for a terrible wicked disease of children)

Franklin D. Roosevelt ( had the wherewithall and courage to bring us out of the DEPRESSION...manufacturered JOBS...did NOT outsource, I might add)

Thomas Edison (discovered almost everything we value today...lights, movies, the phonograph to name a few)

Ben Franklin ( without him couldn't mail a letter or even KNOW there was electricity)

Martin Luther King, Jr.
-felt obligated to put him on

Bob Dylan
-no comment needed

Thomas Edison
-ditto above

Lou Reed
-why listen to the beatles when you have the velvet underground?

Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Kurt Cobain
-yea, so that's not one guy

It is hard to limit the list to 5, but living in America isnt easy. I honestly admit I forgot about Tommy E, another Ohio boy. But I stick to my original list. BTW, how do you put smiles in a post?

Instead of hitting "post quick reply", hit "Go Advanced". Scroll down to the bottom and click the link for the smilies. Unfortunately, our choice has been severely cut down since the switch to the new CC format.
