Top 5% in Math Contests -- significant?

Hi I am an international student and last year I took the American Mathematics Competition (AMC 12). I received a high enough score to be invited to the American Mathematics Invitational Exam (AIME). Since I don't live in the US, I really don't know how significant these "accomplishments" are.

Would this be something worthy of putting on the "Honors" list on the common application? And it would also be great if anyone who is familiar with this can compare this type of accomplishment to other types just so I can easily evaluate them. Thanks!

How did you do on the AIME?

Horribly, was far from qualifying to USAMO. But two of my friends received perfect scores on AMC 12, and one of them went on to receive the blue mop. lol

To be able to take the AIME is considered praiseworthy and is worthy of recognition by colleges.

Thanks. I was wondering why people on here didn’t list it when asking for advice on applying to colleges, so I thought it was too prevalent and people don’t bother to list it.

How does someone from outside the country take the AMC?

You must have been thinking of the USAMTS, which is only open to US contestants.

the AMC/AIME/USAMO competitions are ALL worth mentioning. good job :)
