Top Choice College.. PLEASE CHANCE!!!

I'm a member of the high school class of 2015. I am an honors student who has taken 2 AP classes so far (my high school only offers 1 your junior year, and I took one online). I'd love to attend Georgia Tech. I'm most interested in the Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, computational media, and Business Administration majors. Regardless of what major I decide if accepted, I hope to minor in Music Technology.

Freshman year:
A in all classes except for 2 B+s.
Involved in Marching Band (cymbal line), Jazz Band lead guitarist, Chorus, Literary Trio, Beta Club, one theater production, and church praise band.

Sophomore year:
All A+.
Involved in Marching Band (cymbal line), One Act (Biddy in Miss Havisham's Great Expectations), All-State Chorus, Literary Trio, Beta Club, and church praise band. I was very involved in theater and was the sound and lights specialist for musicals.

My Junior year:
Marching band VP, played snare (solo snare) in Marching Band, Beta club, Student Council VP, All-District Band (Principal Mallets), all A + in first semester, Math Team, One-Act Region Champion (lighting and sound technician), 98 in APUSH, 102 in AP Stat. I finished with all 98 and above and I earned the highest average in honors Precalculus/Advanced Trig and the leadership award for student council.
I was chosen as the marching band's drum major and percussion section leader for next year.
I did two years of All-State chorus during middle school as well.
My GPA as of right now is around 98-100. I am not sure exactly what it is until they send out final reports.

Also, I am taking 2 college level classes and possibly 1 additional AP next year, for my high school only offers 1 now that the other AP classes have been replaced with the college ones. I will be involved in student council, beta club, all-district possibly, and other additional clubs that I have time for but enjoy. I may be voted as most talented by my peers, no guarantee though.

I truly have a passion for music and technology and I think my essays will vividly express that.
My SAT score will be here on the 26th of June and my AP scores will be sent in early July.

Any advice/information will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I’m a female by the way.

I am assuming you are in state. As long as your SAT’s are good and your high school’s rigor rating is decent then I would think you will get in. You can check your high schools rigor rating using this link. While the report is for enrollment in 2012 I doubt the high schools rigor ratings have changed much:

http://www.irp.gatech.edu/facts-and-figures/georgia-tech-impact-georgia-high-schools/#

@MichiganGeorgia‌ I had no idea about this HS rigor thing. Is 7 decently high? My GPA is kinda low due to my school being so difficult.

@Vorter‌ I’d say 7 is high, considering Ga Tech is 8. My high school is 5. That seems decent enough. Are you applying as well?

@Vorter - My son goes to GT along with a lot of the other kids from his high school. Our high school is also rated a 7.

@MusicGeek15‌ Yep, although my GPA is a measly 3.61 or 3.72 if they count 1st semester senior year grades. Hopefully the high rigor rating counters my low GPA.

@Vorter‌ when will you be applying? I think you should have a good chance because of the rating. What’s your intended major? That may influence their decision as well.

@MusicGeek15 I’m entering my senior year so I’m applying EA this fall.

@Vorter‌ so am I! Best of luck

@MusicGeek15 Good luck to you too!

Being in state might help you, though your SAT scores will definitely swing you one way or another. With a high, and unfortunately I mean HIGH SAT and a very good essay you could most likely get in.
Just as an FYI, there’s a high school on there rated a 19 for difficulty. No idea what the scale goes up to (20?)

If it helps I applied very late (last day possible) w/ a 34 on the math & science on the ACT (translated to a 1420 SAT) and a few AP classes and I was waitlisted, but didn’t take the spot as it was not my top choice (I figured there was someone else who was dying to go and deserved my spot on the list). The stats they gave me on the waitlist page gave their acceptance rate for 2014 to be just over 10% so, unless there was a typo somewhere (they gave # applied and # admitted), they’ve MAJORLY cut down on how many kids are coming in.

Go have a look at the early decision post from this year to give you an idea. Stay positive, give it your best shot and write a great essay that doesn’t sound like what everyone else writes, and good luck!

What does it mean by rigor number? Does that mean number of ap class student take?? My school average is 10…

I believe the rigor number is showing the number+level of advanced coursework students from that particular high school have taken (and were admitted to Tech) for that school year. Just like the the GPA and SAT/ACT.

So you can look at how many advanced and AP classes you took compared to the kids from your school who were admitted last year.
