top LACs compared to Ivies?

I am looking at these schools: Carleton, Pomona, Williams, Grinnell, Columbia, Upenn, Dartmouth.

I know some of the schools offer completely different undergrad experience :P but i think i will be able to adapt to diff environments/atmospheres. just want to know how far will the schools let me go after i graduate, like job placement/grad school placement(business schools in particular).

Oh and i am interested in econs and math. hoping to do business/finance in the future/grad school.

I heard that for LAC grad to enter business field, the best way is to find a good biz school and get a degree? how far is this true?

For finance I'd rank them as such:
1) Wharton
2) Dartmouth,Williams, Columbia
3) the other ones

You need to land a job before MBA, and the above list is how I'd rank how good the school are at placement.

Hmm i am kind of aware of the rankings, but just wanna know how huge the difference there is, among those schools.

Anyway, thanks for the reply and bumps!

Why no Amherst?

Oh okay i am also looking at schools like amherst, but i just list williams since they shd be identical in job placement/grad school placement. Well most of the schools are reaches for me if i apply for a large amt of financial aid, and most of them are match if my family can pay full-fees. therefore i am evaluating how far will these schools get me, in order to decide how much to pay for each school.. Thanks for the concern though, JCCort!

No problem

Any other info?

FlyShow: These should help to somewhat answer both your questions regarding professional school placement and finance recruitment:

This is a list of summer analysts at a major bank (posted by a summer analyst). Many summer analysts are hired full time, so it should be telling about overall school placement.

This is placement into top law/biz/med schools - obviously you are most interested in biz, but I couldn't find a list for just biz placement.

You might consider adding some more schools similar to Dartmouth or Williams to your list (such as Amherst). You'll see that LACs place very well.

Thanks for the llinks!!

Columbia, Upenn, Dartmouth (these are the best Ivies after HYP)

(SLIGHT almost insignificant drop) Williams, Amherst, Brown, Cornell

DROP
3. Middlebury, Pomona, Colgate

DROP
4. Carleton, Grinnell

I'm sure it varies by firm, but, according to this poster Wesleyan, Colgate and NYU tied with 1 intern each and there was no mention of Pomona or MIddlebury at their firm:
http://www.ibankingoasis.com/node/5768

Yeah, and keep in mind that Wesleyan and Colgate are a fraction of the size of NYU

If you read down further, you'll notice that the original poster says:

"gshell - good catch, Northwestern should have one up there. Also, Boston College and Middlebury both have one and Georgetown two."

johnwesley: Pomona was grouped together with Claremont/McKenna in the "target" group.

^good catch. :)

thought Carleton is in league with Midd pomona colgate..

Pomona is definitly up with Amherst and Williams (and Swarthmore)

in terms of ibanking placement, according to the ibankingoasis.com, carleton, midd, pomona, colgate are similar

also, in the interest of accuracy, the same site lists two more NYU internships under semi-targets, for total of 3 (btw, that's the blogger's assessment of the college's -- not necessarily the industry's) but he chose to separate them because they didn't graduate from Stern (hey, it's his blog, he can do what he wants.)
