Top liberal arts schools for musical theater??

This is from the Chapman’s link. Chapman University will have a new Center for the Arts.

CENTER FOR THE ARTS
“The nonprofit arts enrich our lives in ways that cannot be fully measured in quantitative terms.”
President James L. Doti
With an anonymous $25 million gift already committed, Chapman University has retained the architectural firm Pfeiffer Partners and sound acousticians Nagata Acoustics, and set mid-2012 as the target date for breaking ground on its new Center for the Arts.
The total cost of construction for the proposed 1,100 seat state-of-the-art theatre is estimated to be $50 million.
The new facility will enhance the Chapman experience on campus, particularly for students at the College of Performing Arts, build bridges to the vibrant Orange County arts community, and elevate the college to new heights and prominence. It will allow the university to present world-class performances of opera, musical theatre, symphony, theatre and dance.
The center will also fulfill a critical need for increased rehearsal and performance space on campus. Existing arts education programs will find renewed energy as the limitations imposed by the present facilities are lifted and new possibilities for creative expression surge.
And it will open doors to majors yet to be offered by the college – such as programs in musical theatre and arts management – that have been on hold due to the lack of an appropriate training and performance facility. Students will also benefit from invaluable real-world experience gained from working side-by-side with professional touring companies.

You cannot audition for musical theatre. They don’t have it. They may eventually have it, but this says they are breaking ground next year (maybe), so maybe someday… They have Theatre Performance. Not Musical Theatre. What is your point about current MT programs?

Chapman has a strong performing arts program, so anyone who is looking to get into musical theater can perhaps look into it while in high school, or perhaps future transfer students. You never know. Check with the school to find out their timeline, it’d be easier to get in a newer major. Look at how hard it is to get into their film major now. Just an FYI.

Ok but the point is they don’t have it yet!

^^ I realize they don’t have one at the moment, but the OP’s S is only a junior, not a senior yet. The OP is researching and looking for any input. Given the new Center for the Arts to be built by 2014, and for the school to mention of opening doors to new majors, that is beneficial to look into it. You never know, the school can suddenly decide to start a new program without much advance notice. From what I know about the school because I have a kid there, is that Chapman has been growing rapidly. They have been adding a lot of new majors without much advance notice.

I would take a look at Western Carolina University. We have some media on Facebook to get a feel for our program and the school website gives you a feel of our liberal arts program and student life.
