I'm currently in the final year of my undergraduate course in India. I'm planning on applying for a Master's program in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/ Mathematical Physics to a few places in Europe, the top on my list being University of Bonn, LMU Munich and EPFL. Both Bonn and LMU ask for Subject GRE Mathematics scores and I am absolutely clueless regarding what they consider to be good scores.

Could someone please let me know what sort of scores European universities are looking for in the Subject GRE Mathematics test? Also, a few universities that are good for Math/Applied Math would be really helpful.

A bit offtopic, but have you considered the TMU as well? I have friends at both, LMU and TU, graduating in physics, and the classes at the TMU must be quite smaller than at the LMU. You could also consider the RTWH Aachen, Darmstadt or the TU Berlin if you like germany.

750+ would translate to a raw score of around 44 right? Or does that vary every year?

The Indian BSc course is only three years long unlike the four year one in the US. I spoke to a few Professors here and they said that going to the US for a Master’s might be too big a jump. I will surely consider the US as my first choice when I’m applying for my PHD.

I’ve already looked at the places that you’ve mentioned and they do not have their Masters programs in English. Unfortunately I haven’t taken any German classes either. TU Berlin falls under the Berlin School of Mathematics and I’m applying there. Do you know how much of an emphasis European universities place on Subject GRE scores? Also, what are the chances of acceptance into EPFL/Bonn/LMU with a subject GRE score of say around 650? I haven’t written the test yet but I feel somewhat under prepared and have my end semester college exams at the same time too.

The problem here is that my course isn’t an Honors program either. Since we have what some call a triple major system, we do three subjects all of which are covered to a considerable amount but still not to the extent that an Honors course does. This is why jumping directly into a PhD program is not a safe option in my case and I’m looking to do a 2 year Masters in Europe. Do you know what raw score would translate to 750? The GRE prep books say 44 but I’m just checking.

Would a bad subject GRE score completely ruin my chances of getting into the above mentioned places?
