Top "world brands" in higher ed-THE Rankings

Because different countries have different legal systems. This is a ranking of reputation among academics who are asked to give their opinions of universities in their fields so prominent alumni outside of academia presumable don’t factor into the rankings. Do you think very many law faculty in the US are going to be able to accurately rate any Japanese law schools and vice versa for Japanese law faculty being able to rate US law schools? Also out of curiosity what prominent Americans have law degrees from Oxbridge?

Of course they can. But image is not what this ranking is trying to assess. They are asking scholars to identify the 15 best schools for teaching and research quality in their own fields (with double the weight on research). Even if they added law and business to the list of fields, I’m not sure this would be the kind of ranking you want.

Are global professional schools even comparable based on the American curriculum model? How many universities outside the USA have a college of arts and sciences, graduate schools of a&s, plus separate (but co-located) graduate schools of law, business and medicine?

Well then they’d be Princeton … which is still rather prestigious.

Exactly. It’s rather pathetic wannabe, frankly, to care so passionately about what the Pakistani molecular biologist knows or doesn’t know. This is so very spot-on. Why is this of any relevance whatsoever to the typical bright US student making his or her choices? The Pakistani molecular biologists are “unaware” of quite a few excellent choices in America; the ones that they are aware of don’t magically become better than the ones they are unaware of just because of their awareness.

^^Exactly. The only brand that may be important to many of us is the one perceived by business leaders/recruiting teams, especially if one wants to get into the top firms. It’s silly to worry about how some zoology professor in Sweden thinks about where you went.
