topic of your choice......

if i were to do something entirely "unique" on the UChicago essay by choosing topic of my choice and doing something ridiculous (i dont know, just for an example say that my topic is "what is 2+2?" and the only thing i write in my essay is "4"), is that just unnecessarily strange, or should i try something a little less "dumb" (for lack of a better word) and something that tells them about myself.

im only basing this entirely off of the fact that my counselor ALWAYS keeps mentioning to me that UChicago loves absurd and off-base topics. (im not sure if this is even true, at that)

thanks

They do, but they have to be thought-provoking. Unless you want to propound an extended thesis on the answer to 2 + 2, then I wouldn’t do something like that (especially if you’re just putting 4). Who knows what Nondorf will do this year, but O’Neill once said that they were looking for students that liked to ‘play’ with ideas.
