total and permanent disability discharge and the 3 year monitoring period

a question guys and gals...

i am applying for a student loan discharge due to the fact that i have a permanent disability. the question is since i have non-taxable income in the form of ssd and ssi, do i have to go through that 3 year post-discharge monitoring period or not???

all replies will be welcome

My understanding is that everyone has to go through the 3-year conditional period for Total and Permanent Disability Discharge. The only ones who don’t are those who meet the following condition: The conditional discharge period does not apply if the Secretary of Veterans Affairs determines you to be unemployable due to a service-connected condition, and therefore permanently and totally disabled for the purposes of discharging your loan(s).

You can ask your loan servicer to be sure.

i will contact them monday.

I’m in the 3 year period and received an income letter from nelnet. can they monitor your transactions?
