Totally bombed my freshman year of college, can I recover?

My freshman year at a CC was a whole mess of struggling and not knowing what to do with my life, finding out I have ADHD and dealing with trying to get diagnosed and medicated (too late, didn’t happen until near end of 2nd sem). I’m taking a gap year to work and make sure my medication works like it should so I can resolve that GPA which is likely 1.5 or lower when I come back to my CC and then transfer to a 4-year.

I want to major in philosophy for undergrad and I specifically want to be a law professor after law school.

What advice do you guys have for this?
(I know LSAT is a biggie)

I’m sorry to hear about that. Taking some time off to take care of yourself is always a good idea. No real advice here but its totally fine to not know what ur doing even after you get out of uni. You don’t have to follow a preset path to do what you want. Good luck bud.

Law school is definitely doable.

But don’t start to plan on becoming a law prof. Those are unicorn jobs, and extremely competitive.

For ‘advice’, just get as many A’s as you can. Does your cc have complete grade replacement, in other words, you retake an F and get a B, and the college then replaces teh F with a B. More importantly, that F no longer shows on your transcript. If not, LSAC will not see it.

Take the LSAT after you graduate so you can get another semester of grades, hopefully all A’s.

Ace the LSAT, and apply broadly. Unless you are wealthy, attend a school that is affordable.

good luck.

My two cents, just don’t go back until your life situation is stabilized. Get all negative people out of your life. The biggest issue I have seen is distraction by negative influencers. And people just don’t get it. That may or may not be an issue in your case, but, if necessary, cut every single person out of your life, focus only on school, and of course study hard.

If cutting people out of your life is not doable fro you, then reconsider how important a degree really is to you.
