Totally unsure of my realistic options for college...

I've been a chronic underachiever for the entirety of my high school career, slacking in my classes and participating in no extracurricular activities. I've been kind of resigned to attending University of Louisville for the past few years, but am curious as to whether or not I have a chance at some other schools that have piqued my interest.

Centre College
Transylvania University
Eckerd College
Indiana University
New York University
Boston University
Knox College

General: White male attending very competitive public school in Kentucky.
GPA: 3.35 Weighted
SAT: 2200 (800 Writing, 700 Math, 700 Critical Reading)
APs: 4 in Environmental Science last year; taking Psychology, Music Theory and both Lit and Lang this year.
Extracurriculars: Nothing.
Volunteering: Nothing.
Class rank: Unsure at the moment.
Summer Programs: Governor's School for the Arts (instrumental music), most Kentucky schools give participants in this program lots of scholarship money.
Special: National Merit Semifinalist (212 PSAT). I play the tuba well. I'm a skilled writer, intend to write some killer essays.
Financial Situation: ****. Living with younger sister, dad, and grandparents in grandfather's house. Father unemployed, older sister at college, sole household income is grandfather's pension ($13200/yr). So yeah, the government is going to give me lots of money wherever I go hopefully.

Summary: Good test scores, nonexistent extracurriculars/volunteering, middling grades, good writer, may use status as tuba player as leverage to get into better school. Thanks in advance to anyone who evaluates my situation.

EDIT: For reference, I plan on doing very well in school this year and beyond. My days of barely getting by and skipping school constantly are gone.

You seem like a very good person for having to go through all that you’ve had to go through. Your GPA is kind of on the low side, but man your SAT score is awesome! I’m sure if colleges knew your situation and you work really hard this year, they would look past your gpa. I would try and join some clubs and do some volunteering, and do you do band? You should look into that if you play the tuba. The only things i think that would really hurt you in the addmissions would be EC’s and volunteering. Other than that, you’re solid in terms of what you can do.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/990183-do-i-have-shot-any-these.html

Thanks for the reply. I am actually in the performing arts magnet of my school, so tuba/band is my focus; I take two band classes and AP Music Theory. Opportunity for volunteering: mentoring kids in music at middle schools. Going to look into my school’s literary magazine and newspaper for extracurriculars. I intend to major in English with a focus in creative writing.

I would chance you back, but I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to applying to college. I literally didn’t start researching until a week ago!
