Tough choices for electrical engineering

So today I was rejected from Cornell (yay). I assumed that I would be going to Stony Brook to study ECE (19,000 scholarship too), but after hearing that SBU is not very good for electrical engineering, i’ve been having second thoughts. Here are other colleges I was admitted to, tell me what you think:

RPI (72,000 scholarship)
NYU
Binghamton
Boston University

And a couple others that I seriously don’t consider going to. Could transferring be an option? I am also very science-research oriented.

Of the 4 university centers, Stony Brook is by far the strongest in science. Of the schools, order-…engineering–> RPI, Boston, Stony Brook, NYU and then the rest are much lower ranked. Given the scholarship, why isn’t RPI the obvious choice?

I’m gonna assume it’s because RPI would still cost over $45k per year even with that scholarship. Great school, but RPI has one of the highest sticker prices in the country.

OP, where have you heard Stony Brook is not very good for electrical engineering? As an accredited program, if you do well, you will have every job or grad school opportunity available to you. If you like the school overall, go for it.

Binghamton has to be a pretty good deal. It’s respected and I believe has a good honors college. Not positive though. EdQuest is very high on Binghamton: http://www.educatedquest.com/updated-profile-binghamton-university-ny/.

Binghamton does not have the engineering rep although it is ABET accredited. It is a very good school overall.

Even with the scholarship (presumably $18,000 per year), RPI’s net price would still be about $48,000 per year. In comparison, Stony Brook with a $5,000 per year scholarship would be about $19,000 per year for a New York resident, or $36,000 per year for a non-New York resident.

Thanks for the advice guys!!

Why you happy that you got rejected from Cornell?
