I chose biology for UCLA and UCB.. but I chose Bioengineering: Premedical for UCSD....

I got into UCLA, but am waiting for UCSD and UCB-- I'm predicting that I'll get into UCSD, but not too sure about UCB.

Where should I go...? This is basically a "prestige" question...

UCLA and UCB have high prestige, but I'm getting the feeling that those universities aren't entirely suited for my major.

On the other hand, I've been hearing great things about UCSD and biology, but of course there isn't as much prestige for UCSD as there is for UCLA ("brand-name").

Where should I go, in terms of future career success and a quality education?

BTW, I may change my mind, but if it comes down to it, I'd probably choose UCLA over UCB.

i wouldnt say UCLA has better location than UCSD, but i would say better than Berkeley. However, Berkeleys prestige trumps UCSD and UCLA, in my oppinion. Visit the three schoools, cant go wrong with any of them, all top publics.

(1) For "bread-and-butter" standard majors (eg English, History, Math, Biology, Poli Sci, etc), I normally say that at the UNDERGRAD level, pick the better overall school, and don't worry about departmental rankings.
(1a) However, INGORE small differences in rankings... thay are insignificant... use the rankings as a ROUGH guide. When schools are closely ranked, use other factors.
(1b) However, for UNUSUAL or SPECIALTY majors, it is usually a good idea to take a look at departmental rankings too...

(2) At the UNDERGRAD level, there is very little difference in prestige between Berkeley & UCLA... UCSD has been growing/improving at probably the fastest rate in the entire UC system, and is now only ever so slightly behind at the undergrad level. I'd almost call it a wash.

All 3 are AMAZING institutions... definitely visit, and definitely take into account other factors like environment, etc. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Good luck!

If you want to do engineering, it will be hard to get into UCLA's or Berkeley's from the general liberal arts and sciences college. It will be possible, but difficult. This is something to keep in mind. If you like all three campuses the same, and are set on bioe, UCSD would be a guarenteed possibility of majoring in bioe. Otherwise, I generally agree with harvardandberkeley.
