I'm looking for the traditional college experience (greek life, community feel, etc.) in a school with at least 5,000 undergrads as close as possible, if not within, a major city. I want to major in international relations/affairs and go to grad school after college. I have good grades and scores and I go to a very well known school now. Any ideas?

UCLA

American University has a great IR program, Greek life, a “real” campus, and it’s in DC (although not downtown, it’s in a part that feels more like a suburb.

Howard, Catholic and Georgetown also all have great campuses in DC. I’m not sure how Catholic’s and Howard’s IR program is, but both have strong fraternity/sorority networks. Georgetown’s IR program is fantastic, but no frats there.

Outside of DC, Northwestern is another great school close to a big city with a real campus.

DePaul in Chicago. [DePaul University College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences](http://las.depaul.edu/int/) Lincoln Park is a nice neighborhood right in Chicago and feels traditional, and the Loop Campus is right in the business district.

But, I think CuriousJane lists the best choices - DC seems like the place to be for International Relations.

According to a recent study of IR scholars in the US and abroad,

Check out U Maryland. It’s bigger than you’re looking for, but solid in IR and right outside DC. It’s a major school for recruiters from DC, so that’s a plus!

Harvard, Tufts
American, Georgetown, GW
Penn
Northwestern, UChicago
I think Georgetown would be your best bet (no Greek life, but plenty of parties, and a strong community). It’s hard to beat DC for IR.

Boston is a great college city. Consider B.U., B.C., and Northeastern as well as Harvard and Tufts.
