Traditional Dorm: Diamond in the Rough?

Hey I was assigned to Rubelmann, and I was wondering if this Student Life article about WashU's traditional dorm situation is accurate. I'm especially interested in the part about the Tempur-Pedic mattresses.

"For the past decade, the University has demolished traditional housing, which features communal bathrooms on each floor, in favor of modern suite-style housing, in which all individual suites have private bathroom facilities. In addition, all remaining traditional dorms and modern dorms that opened this fall have been provided with TempurPedic mattresses."

Anyone have any experience regarding Rubelmann?

1) It’s generally shortened and just called Ruby (also on a random note, Koenig is pronounced K-nig)

2) Had they had temperpedic mattresses when I was a freshmen, I would have put traditional as my first choice. That being said, I loved my modern dorm.

3) Very few people dislike their dorms. I’m sure you’ll grow a fierce loyalty to Ruby.

I wasn’t aware that modern dorms would also have these tempurpedic mattresses. Can anyone confirm this?

^^ My son had also heard that the modern dorms would all be outfitted with Tempurpedic mattresses this year. We would also like to know if that’s true.

My best guess would be that its the same as what happened last year…only the dorms that had just opened got Tempurpedic. I doubt they’re replacing all mattresses in all dorms.

Yes, marc is right.

It’s not that moderns are getting new mattresses. ie Koenig will still have the old ones.

It’s the new dorms that are opening up that will have them- ie Eliot B (and New Wohl, aka SoFoHo, has them as well; that opened last year).
