Traditional v. Simplified Chinese

Which one do the classes use?
Does it matter if I write in traditional Chinese during my placement test?

Do you think you will lose points for using British spelling vs. American spelling in an English class?

Probably not, unless the grader has a chip on her/his shoulder.

I don’t know about UVa, but the standard is traditional chinese in many american education systems.

Great thank you

the textbooks we use usually include both traditional and simplified. generally students (esp with no previous background) stick with simplified because its easier for some people to learn, but its really your choice as long as you can recognize/read both… even if you aren’t accountable for writing both. so you would be fine using traditional on the test…

I can’t speak about upper-level Chinese classes, but the lower level classes learn both Traditional and Simplified, with a (big) emphasis on Simplified. Traditional characters were still accepted on tests.
