What school has the most annoying traditions? What do you have to do? I will say that Texas A&M has some awefully silly traditions that makes me want to laugh, but ohh well everyone does them. Even though it's silly, I would rather go to a school with traditions and spirit than to one without.

I like UMD's traditions/stories. There is a haunted building story and in conjunction to that a myth if you step on this one stop on campus you won't graduate. Also, the fact that Testudo is such a large part of everything is cool. During finals week everyone touches his nose and leaves him gifts, beer, anything. I've heard it's hilarious to see. I will definitely be donating something to him!

There's also just a funny little legend that if anyone ever graduates from UMD a virgin, Testudo will fly away.

All of UVa's secret societies have the coolest traditions. Just walking around campus you could see where they'd been, from a suit jacket on a tree to a wreath on the statue of Thomas Jefferson. It was neat.

GT has a fake student...George P. Burdell...he's been around since 1929 when some kid did multiple apps and tests to fool teachers. Students kept his name alive...when GT went automated, George signed up for every single class....everywhere a Tech grad goes he's been...he even fley with the Royal Air Force in WWII, ahaha, i think thats kinda cool...kids submitting articles in his name, and signing him up for things and such

Don't forget the chalked-on horns on the sevens left by the IMPs and the myth about crossing the middle of the seven gets you pregnant by graduation.

JerJahr, you go to A&M? I'm gonna be a freshman there next year, so I encountered soem traditions when I went for my NSC. Silliness doens't really bother me. =P

I like the traditions at Auburn, but we don't have any really cool ones like at other schools.

Oh man, Notre Dame's traditions are amazing. Maybe others can elaborate on them because Im just starting out and my scope is limited.

A&M has silly traditions so that they can still have school spirit after losing to Texas every year.

^we have tradition where we play football with UCLA and hate UCLA through out the year.. i don't know if this is a good thing or not but rivalries are always fun XD And apprantly we play pranks on each other and UCLA draws on USC's statue so people protect it during that week or something XO

Ferstammendment- LOL our high school had a student like that! They thought he was a real student and teachers actually counted him present and all that (actually one of the teachers were in it..) they didn't catch him for several yrs.. LOL

We also had a student like that at my high school. His name was F. Elliot and he wound up on everything from passes to marching band rosters. The administration has never let him graduate though. Even his spirit exists--a guy normally named Jason introduced himself to kids from other schools as F. Elliot. We even found a random picture of a guy and made him F. Elliot. I think he even has/had a Myspace or something.

As far as college traditions go, if there are any, I'm unaware of them at my school, but then again I've only gone there for a second semester and a summer class. At Mount Union, it was a huge tradition to get nasty when John Carol came to town. I never participated in it and secretely rooted for John Carol since I hated Mount Union. I didn't even go to the football game because I wanted to relax when all the noisy jerks were gone.

Also at Mount Union, there was a legend that if you stepped on the seal in the one hall that you'd fail your final on finals day. In fact, people would yell and scream at you if you did step on it because they all thought it was bad luck. I proudly stepped on it, stayed there for a few seconds and danced around like it was nobody's business, and got a 91 on my sociology final. YEAH

And to Testudo...I will transfer to your school because I vow to remain a virgin until marriage.

I second what red06 said, I'm really looking forward to Notre Dame traditions next year- it sounds like it will be awesome.

Cal traditions. Love it. Love the rivalries and pranks.

It's our turn to be vigilant this year, they're coming to our house for the Big Game...we must defend against their pranks.

For some students I know, the introduction of Cal's spirit when thrust upon them was a little overwhelming at first!

My dad told me a handful of the traditions at ND when I was applying there a few years ago. During the winter, the students in one of the dorms (the one across the lake) dress up like cavemen and march across the frozen lake to eat at the dining hall while acting the part of cavemen. There are also make-shift raft races across the lakes once a year; the rafts are made from stuff around the dorm--mattresses, tape, and the like. I don't know if they still happen (he graduated in '84). I thought they were a cool part of the school. Columbia doesn't have as many traditions, that I know of anyway. I know that at midnight on the night before the organic chem exam, the marching band plays while marching through the library. I'm sure there are more that I don't know of yet.

Does rioting on Route 1 after basketball games count as tradition?

As long as you don't get caught..

Haha. It might be sad to say, but I really want to be there when there is a riot, but only because that would mean our basketball team would be kicking ass again, and I mean the men.

^^amen.

and about riots, I definately don't plan on tipping buses, lighting cars on fire or busting into stores but if a riot is going on, i don't see myself in my dorm room.

it doesn't necessarily have to be the mens basketball team for us to riot. we "rioted" last year when we won the womens championship against duke no less. no real damage besides a few little fires, a knocked over sign and a bus that almost got tipped over till everyone got scared. riot police showed up though and i got pepper sprayed...

SCAV HUNT, Uof Chicago

LOVE IT

well, not yet, but coming soon next spring
