Transfer Admissions 101

Call Towson and ask for an extension. Explain the situation and they will probably give you one. If they don’t, try calling the other school and explaining the situation, and they may be able to tell you what you can expect for their decision. If all else fails, imagine the other school’s decision to be a rejection. If you would go to Towson upon being rejected from the other school, put down the deposit. You can always go to the other school in the end (assuming the deposit isn’t binding, which it hardly is for transfers especially considering your very common situation), and 300 bucks is nothing in comparison to tuition, or the price of happiness or a good education (not that you can’t find those at Towson, I’m sure). Good luck.

^^Congratulations!

…
Colleges require high school transcript, which also means that they require high school GPA and class rank, right?

My high school is in another country, which has a completely different system of education. My high school can’t send my high school transcript to the college I want to transfer to, because it doesn’t do these things.

I have a copy of my high school transcript, but my class rank and GPA are only listed on the Couselor Report in the Common Application.

Do you think I should send(i can only mail it) both the copy of the transcript (signed and stamped by the HS principal) and the counselor forms with the rank and the GPA?

Thanks in advance.

Ask your consellor to include the proper forms with his/her report?

From what I read, if you have an AA degree or 60+ credits completed, your high school records are history. It may be different for more selective schools though.

fidelity - I am basically in the same predicament, but I’ve solidified my decision to go to a CC at this point. I didn’t get into any of the UC’s I wanted to attend, but go into Merced and SFSU. I don’t want to go to either. So, I’m able to take honors courses at community college to help my transfer process, so that I can go to a UC of my choice (seeing that I work hard enough!). My GPA was a 3.0 and my SAT’s were in the mid 1500’s. That was pretty much my downfall I guess.

I’m going to be enrolling as a freshman this fall at a university on the quarter system. My question is; how many credits are usually taken each quarter?
I’m asking this because I might want to transfer after my freshman year and want to know how many credits a freshman usually completes. But I don’t know. I might fall in love with the college and never want to leave…who knows.

But thanks anways

do i have to withdraw/(unenroll?) from my current school or is it just like a surprise when i dont show up next year?

usually you need to formally unenroll.

gosh…i had a professor who is notoriously tough… not a person in my class earns an A/A-, so that adversely worsens my GPA … How can I deal with this problem?

nineteen; if you are at a CC than you can just not register for classes and enroll somewhere else. If you are at a four-year school, than you would need to formally withdraw from school.

kesprincess; If you can manage a B or a B+ in the course than I wouldn’t worry about it too much. In fact, if no one has ever received at least an A-, I wouldn’t worry about it at all. You, and other posters, may disagree with this, but it is okay to get a ‘bad’ grade once or twice so as long as your other grades are tops.

hey guys

I’m wondering how we are supposed to send the supplements of some universities like UPenn or Cornell online since we have to sign them. What about the mid term scores, recommendation, and the rest?

Please help me :)

Right now, i’m studying at Tarumanagara University, one of the top-5 universities in Indonesia(a country that is located at South East Asia)…It’s my second year and approaching my fifth semester on August this year. My field is Psychology(undergraduate) and have collected 49 credits so far, but i’m planning to apply to Harvard as freshman and take a whole different field, maybe Biology or Law…for me, it’s useless to apply for transfer if you’re going to take a whole different field…i’m going to take my SAT test on this December or January 2010…

i’ve heard that Harvard is not accepting any transfer right now because lack of housing…i’ve also heard that Harvard will less likely to accept someone who already had an undergraduate degree and still want to apply for another undergraduate degree at Harvard…this situation force me to choose between applying ASAP for undergraduate or wait until i’ve finish my study right here and then apply for graduate at Harvard…well,i prefer the first one

my questions are :
-which is best for me, to apply as international transfer or freshman(by telling them the truth about my situation and why i want to apply as freshman) ?
-when is the the best time to apply as soon as possible to Harvard(2010) ?
-have you ever heard any case like mine before? if yes, please tell me…

note : sorry for my poor English…

You CANNOT apply as an Intl transfer as H is not currently accepting any transfers. And if they were accepting transfers, you need to spend at least 2 years in residence there.

You CANNOT apply to H as a freshman as you already have too many college credits. It doesn’t matter that you want to study in a different field, having so many credits or an undergraduate degree disqualifies you from applying as a fresman.

I’m afraid that applying to H as an undergrad is not a possibility in your case.

woah! I also have a question about the applications about UPenn’s transfer application.

Okay I found an application on this link at the bottom: [Penn Admissions: Apply Online or Request an Application](http://www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/applying/incoming.php)

The application at the bottom is a supplement to the common application, correct? Does that mean that we have to write the additional essays on the common application? The reason I am asking, is because, the common application seems to have the same essay topic as the penn supplement- are we supposed to do both?

I applied to penn this past year as a transfer (rejected unfortunately but happy enough to attend WashU) and I was able to do the supplemental application through common application. When you put your school in the common application website it will provide you with a link to the online common app and the online supplemental app. You just use a digital signature same as you do with the regular application on common app.

And as far as the recommendations I had my teachers mail them by giving them an addressed envelope with a stamp on it. And my midterm reports I also mailed myself.

Is is permissible to use one teacher’s recommendation to more than one school- obviously with their permission. do you know how that works out and whether it is not uncommon or something rarely done?

I used the same three recommendations for all the schools I applied to. And I am sure that it is very common for people to use a few recs for most schools especially people who apply to a lot of schools. And all I did was provide my teachers with an addressed and stamped envelope for each school I wanted them to send theirs too.

May have already been asked but does anyone know when the applications for spring transfers start becoming available?

Hello everybody!
I hope someone can help me with this. I have quite a few withdrawals on my academic transcript, 12 total I think. Most of these W’s are classes that aren’t even transferable to the UCLA and Irvine. I was wondering if I have any chance what so ever of making it in. My major is Political Science and my G.P.A. is 3.26 as of right now…

I currently have a 3.9 gpa however I have 4 F’s on my transcript. I repeated all the classes I got F’s in and got A’s the second time. (the f’s were removed from my gpa)
I’m applying to UC’s, nyu, usc, and cornell. Do I have a chance especially at Ucberkley and ucla or will those f’s crush me?
