Hi!
I’m currently a rising sophomore at Oberlin taking a year off because of COVID and because I didn’t like it. I’ve been looking into schools to transfer too and I just can’t find much of anything that seems like a good fit and affordable. I’m looking for someplace that’s more laid back and less work-o-holic-y than Oberlin. I don’t really care about prestige, but good aid really matters. I still don’t know what I want to major in, but probably something in the social sciences. I really want to be somewhere where I can go hiking, or at least be outside during the winter. This is a strange request kind of, but I don’t want to be at a school that rewards and upholds inaccessible “academic language.” I’m leaning towards a bigger school, but a smaller school that’s a good fit would be fine as well.
My stats are
4.03 college gpa
3.98 highschool unweighted
4.658 highschool weighted
34 English act
28 Stem act
11 writing act
Look into the University of Richmond.
You are really going to have to research this one because, as a transfer student who needs financial aid, you will be limited. Transfer students typically don’t get good aid.
So that means the south and the west. The western states will largely be unaffordable and too “”work-a-holic-y”.
That leaves the southern states. Start looking at net price calculators for schools that may interest you.
As a transfer student, consider your state public schools since COA is a major concern.
Thanks y’all. I’m looking at University of New Mexico for a state school (not many options in my state) but unfortunately it’s 3 minutes away from my parents house. I’m also looking at WUE schools. I’ll look a bit more into Southern schools that I might be able to afford. Appreciate the advice!
Well-endowed private colleges do commonly pledge to meet the full, demonstrated financial need of all accepted students, including transfer students.
University of the South Sewanee, Whitman, UPuget Sound, Davidson, Vanderbilt, Emory?
If you’re okay hiking in the snow, add Kenyon, Denison, Dickinson, Colby. Williams meets need for transfers but admits very very few of them.
Run the NPC to see if it’d be affordable for a freshman.
