Transfer Chances, Chance Me!

My high school performance was weak, mid 80s with a couple AP’s thrown in the mix. Decent SAT’s but not great. 570 reading, 610 Math. Did better senior year, 95 second semester, a 99.6 my last quarter of high school. Which is when I started applying myself. I go to a local Community College, I am going into my fourth semester. I have a 4.0 GPA through three semesters, I’ve also taken calc 1 and 2 at my community college to strengthen my course rigor. I am president of my schools investment club, containing 40 members. I am a Phi Theta Kappa member, I work as a marketing director for a real estate office agent, as well as a working at Banana Republic. I also ran cross country for my community college in the fall. Colleges I’m looking at: Cornell CALS AEM, Boston College, Tufts University, Columbia University, RPI, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Buffalo, and UAlbany. I’d like to know my chances for these schools, as there isn’t a ton of transfer info. My school also has a transfer agreement with RPI and Cornel CALS. Thanks.

You need to keep that 4.0, or at least to keep straight As (A/A-). You have a shot at Cornell AEM because you attend a CC in NYS and you’d likely be among the strongest contenders - that’d be a huge step up :stuck_out_tongue: considering how tough it is to get and where it can take you. All SUNYs are good, don’t worry. Columbia, I don’t think so, unless you applied to General Studies. RPI is a match too. What’s your budget? SUNYs will be okay, but the private schools may not offer good financial aid to a transfer (and, again, being in NYS, Cornell is an exception).

My budget can be large if I think it’s worth it. It would depend if I got into Cornell and if I’d rather go to Bing for cheap. I’m just curious as to my chances of getting in to the private schools. I’m interested in my chances for the Boston schools I listed, as well as Northeastern which I just started looking into, they seem to love transfers.

What do you mean “my budget can be large” - do you mean that your parents have money they’ve promised you or do you intend to borrow money?
Your record is excellent but most elite schools don’t admit many transfers at all. So you have to cast a wide net (and apply widely).

My family has money that if I got into a top school I think they’d help me out. Either in its entirety or where my loans would be reasonable. Also, what about Georgetowns school of business McDonough and Villanova. Do I have a shot at them? And I agree with the casting a wide net. Even with a perfect record from CC top schools are tough, so I figure if I apply to a good amount maybe at least a couple will see something in me and accept me. @MYOS1633
