Hey and happy holidays! I am currently a 19 student at St.Johns university with a 3.5 GPA and will be interning at Goldman Sachs, where my father works, this summer. I had a rough time in my last 2 years of high school and was forced to go to a mediocre school. I have high aspirations and a medium-to high courseload in college. I had a 2060 SAT score and am wondering how top business schools would view my situation and how much my internship can really help me...Any feedback or help anybody can offer will be appreciated.

undergraduate schools don't really place all that much emphasis on work experience. it will help, of course, but it is really not a major deciding factor. the like to see things that they can report (i.e., GPA + SAT scores) and strong evidence of leadership. you haven't really explained your 'situation' so i am not sure what you mean. but the 2060 is pretty decent i guess. won't get you into wharton, but there are plenty of fine business schools that will admit you based on that score alone. of course, that 3.5 from st. john's isn't helping as you should really have a 3.9+ coming from there (no offense, but the rigor of the academic institution the student is coming form is also weighed)

edit: the fact that you father works there won't help you as it is made pretty obvious how you landed the gig (you'll have to list somewhere on the app what your parents do for a living)..but of course, it won't hurt you either. what schools are you considering anyhow? good luck.

Don't tell them your father works there. And I believe that if you spin the Goldman sachs at a right angle, it could be weighted very highly.
