Math/Econ double major

School: US News Public State Flagship ranked 80-95
College GPA: 3.86/4.00 (3.79- freshman year, 4.00 first semester sophomore year, All As/4.0 second semester as well)
HS GPA: 3.76
SAT: 2080 (High School), 2330 (retook in College)
Coursework/Courseload: Everything from 100 level to 500 level classes. Most classes as a sophomore are 200, 300, 400 and 500 level courses. Normally 18-19 credits a semester

ECs:
VP of Econ Club: Run an investment team within the club itself. Also have my own personal brokerage account that I've blogged about, etc.
VP of Math Club: Main interest is in applied math. Hold weekly meetings about the applications of mathematics, etc.
Research Assistant: Been working with a professor since the start of my Sophomore year. Probably my biggest EC. I'm close to getting published (hopefully by the end of this semester).
Personal Projects: I've made a few webapps/wrote some software, i.e. tools for data analysis and visualization related some areas of math and economics.

Recs: 1 from Math Professor, and 1 from Econ Professor. Excellent. Crushed in both classes- set the curve, etc., and am on good terms with both.

Schools: Michigan, Cornell, Brown, NYU, Columbia (I can dream, right?), WashU, Penn, UVa, Rice, and CMU

Reasons: Weak econ department at my school. Research/Classes I'm interested in aren't available. Additionally, my school is pretty much a party school, would like a more intellectual environment. I'm also biased towards urban settings, so going to a school in the city would be a big plus.

Few Concerns:
- How much will my GPA hurt me? I held a 4.0 my sophomore year, but my freshman year I had a mix of As, A-s, and a single B+ (this was in an 400 level econ course). I'll admit I didn't have the best study habits, but I've changed my ways since and would love a second shot.

-Thanks
