Hi there everyone, I just wanted to wonder if my grades/numbers in general were worth it for me to put in time into transfer apps. Due to logistical issues, I CANNOT retake any standardized tests. Some school choices would also be appreciated!
Demographics and such

Went to a super competitive public high school
Current school: super small all girls LAC
Financial Aid: nope

HS Things
GPA: 3.7 (9-12) UW/ 4.15 W (unofficial)

Courseload: basically one step down from the hardest possible
ECs: had a few leadership positions, won awards (highest is at state level), ~100 hours community service
College Things
GPA: 3.866667 (two A-s, 3 A’s, I can’t currently tell which grade is for what class, will come back to update that)
Courseload: took 1 more full credit than I needed to, basically the hardest possible with overload
ECs: satire writer for the school paper (I couldn’t really get involved all that much, I had some health problems that needed to be dealt with)
Transfer college criteria:
good academic support system
medium size (~5000-15000 is ok), but LACs are ok too if they meet the rest of the criteria
some good school spirit and night life
good science/chem department
good research opportunities
would prefer a more urbanish setting maybe on the east coast/parts of the south (like Texas or the better parts of Tennessee)
Any suggestions at all are ok! I would also like some feedback on if my GPA is good (I got one more A- than expected whoops). Thanks in advance!
How many semester units? Some schools want you to have a certain amount of units completed before you apply and if you only have done 1 semester you may not qualify.
Unfortunately, I don’t know too much about ChemE but there’s a million schools with regular chemistry. When you say you want a school with good night life are you including on-campus greek life and parties or are you saying city nightlife like clubs, bars, etc.
What is the reason you want to leave your current school? Inadequate offerings in your academic interests or lack of offering a chemical engineering major?
If nothing else, many California public universities have chemical engineering and are transfer friendly – but they want junior level transfers, not sophomore level transfers, and take most transfers from California community colleges.
Does your current school offer the following courses:
Math: single variable calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations
Physics: calculus based introductory physics suitable for engineering majors (including mechanics and E&M)
Chemistry: general chemistry, organic chemistry, suitable for chemistry majors
?
If not, and if you are not able to transfer to a different four year school with chemical engineering and chemistry majors, you may want to transfer back home to a community college with these course offerings, so that you can be prepared to transfer as a junior the following year in those majors at a UC, CSU, or other school.
@ucbalumnus I took multivar this semester, and I’m taking linear next semester. I’m pretty sure they offer calculus based physics (I’m just not sure what the course number is). And yes, they do have the general chemistry major (ACS accredited) and all appropriate courses to go with it.
