Transfer cuny student starting over, deciding between Computer Science and Accounting major?

I'm a transfer student in Kingsborough Community College. Before that, I was attending Baruch College, but basically floundered there for four years before getting academically dismissed. After that, I took a break from school, and took a job between that time. This sounds pretty stupid, but I guess part of the reason I wanted to go back to school is that I really don't want to get too old. I chose Computer Science as my major is because I have some interest in computers, though I'm worried about the lack of programming experience I have and the difficulty of the major. I'm also considering accounting, since it seems to be a secure career choice, but the supposed cutthroat job competition and the supposed tediousness made me hesitate. I also don't have the best math skills, though my math placements test score showed that I could do the work. I was wondering what I should do? Sorry if any of this doesn't make sense.

I am a transfer student at Baruch studying accounting right now, so I can tell you how accounting is over here but I don’t know much about Computer Information Systems here. For accounting you need to get into Zicklin before you can take the accounting class. If you want to major in accounting the minimum GPA for ACC3000, ACC3100, ACC3200, and ACC3202 is a 2.5 anything lower and you will have to change majors. Out of the 4 courses, you will probably have to worry about ACC3200, Cost Accounting, the most. That course is really tough. The concepts are easy to understand, but the midterms and finals was difficult for me, since it was departmental. I would say if you interested in going for Accounting major take ACC3200 first and see how you do. I would not recommend taking it with any other accounting courses. Hopefully I did not scare you that much regarding Accounting majors. Good luck with your decision.

CS will require math. If you don’t think that is for you, consider the Info Systems degrees in the business college. Might be possible to double-major with accounting or major in one and minor in the other.
