Transfer Decision Date in the Middle of Semester

Hello, I’m new here. I’m a freshman at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, finishing up my first semester. I’m applying to Brigham Young University as a transfer student, but the problem is that the decision date is February 15, after the date we’re supposed to go back for the spring semester at Miami.

I won’t find out if I got into BYU or not until after I’m in Ohio. I can’t afford another year at Miami after the spring semester, which is one of the main reasons I’m applying to BYU. I also don’t think I should apply for the Fall 2021 semester at BYU instead, because I’ll have too many college credits and they won’t look at my high school transcript, which is very good compared to what grades I have now in college. (4.4 weighted GPA, 3.6 unweighted, and 1380 SAT score in high school). My college grades are very, very low.

So I have the option to stay home and do classes online at Miami, so that if I do get into BYU I wouldn’t have spent travel money to Ohio and it would be easier to transfer, however I would have already paid tuition. If I take a gap semester at Miami, that would allow me to easily transfer to BYU after I receive the decision, but if I do not get accepted, I have an empty semester and a graduation date pushed back.

I don’t want to stay home and do classes online, truthfully, because I have already experienced this with the fall semester at Miami and it was not something I want to go through again.

I’m not sure what I should do, or which option will result in the best outcome. The entire situation is risky. Please let me know what you think I should do, and if you have any other options that might help! Thank you!
