I just talked to someone at Oxy's admissions and she said transfer decisison would be going out on a "rolling basis" through the month of May. So there is no telling when our decisions will show up.

gl poshgirl!

Oxy is killing me with this wait…

I received my acceptance packet in the mail today, but I’m not going to attend. Good luck to everyone!

jjay1, what day the letter was dated?

anselmo1, the letter was dated May 11th. The packet was sent by First Priority Mail. I live in Tennessee.

I got laid off for the summer, so it turns out I can’t even afford to move if I get in. Yet I’m still anxiously checking my mailbox.

“We have experienced an unprecedented response to our offers of admission and are projecting that we will enroll a first-year class in August that will be around 550, approximately 100 more than the target. This unexpected result is due in part to the increased number of offers of admission but mostly to a surprising increase in yield, the highest percentage of students accepting our offers in the past six years. Since we are now over-subscribed, we will not be admitting any students from our wait list. I wanted to let you know about our admission outcome at the earliest possible time, but do so with the strong caveat that we still face considerable uncertainty due to the recession and to the actions of other schools. We do not know what other colleges and universities will do, in view of the apparent lower enrollment numbers being reported at many institutions. Therefore, we do not know how large our summer “melt” will be.”

Wow, amazing.

“we still face considerable uncertainty due to…the actions of other schools. We do not know what other colleges and universities will do, in view of the apparent lower enrollment numbers being reported at many institutions. Therefore, we do not know how large our summer “melt” will be.”

Call me dumb, but I’m not sure I understand the part above. How would, “the actions of other schools” affect Occidental (negatively)?

“This unexpected result is due in part to the increased number of offers of admission but mostly to a surprising increase in yield, the highest percentage of students accepting our offers in the past six years.”

I also wonder if the acceptance rate was higher this year (due to the economy), or, “the increased number of offers of admission” just means that, because there were so many more applicants, a larger number of people (not percentage wise) were offered admission. I have a feeling it’s both. I hope the acceptance rate didn’t rise too much, just because that’s how a lot of people judge a school’s quality, including USNews (not saying that’s a good barometer).

I had a feeling yield would be up at Oxy. It’s definitely the Obama factor. I wonder how this impacts transfer admissions.

I got waitlisted for transfer admissions. According to the letter there were 450 applicants for 40 spots, and they expect to take 15 people off the waitlist.

eta. Wait, I think I read that wrong. It actually says:

That’s a strange thing to say. Not really very informative.
