Transfer decisions?

Thanks guys! I submitted my application around a month before the deadline. My gpa was a 3.8 with some extracurricular activities.

Hey guys I just got my Acceptance Letter on Friday! I am a transfer student btw. Very happy! Good luck to everyone.

Anyone else receive a decision yet??

I received a mid-year grade request on April 18th that required me to get my teacher’s signatures and my current grades. I sent it in today, ~3.7 GPA, tons of good EC’s, freshman transfer applicant.

Thanks Nandayo for the info. It helps to hear where everyone else is status wise. Good luck!

Yep, np! I’m nervous about financial aid though, I heard it’s gone down, and transfers can’t apply for merit. :[

BTW I’m transferring from the University of Arizona Honors College.

Good luck!

Got my “award” a couple days ago. About 10k In grants and the other 40+k in loans…No merit scholarships for transfers doesn’t make sense because then all transfers are gonna have to pay nearly the entire sticker price for their time at USD but I guess that’s how it goes…if anyone finds away around this, let me know…

@EndPhase

That’s exactly what I’m worried about… :</p>

I still haven’t heard anything. As far as financial aid goes, I know there’s no merit for us (which is stupid bc we actually have grades from college which show how well we’ve done, but whatever), but is the general financial aid less for transfers than if we were 4-year students? Like, are we just offered the “leftovers”?

I have a meeting with Erik Castillo tomorrow, I’m going to see how decisions are coming along…I’ll let you guys know if anything has changed

@above Yes, please ask the counselor about financial aid for transfers. I sent an email or two to the financial aid office as well as the onestop services regarding the situation. I’ll update this thread when I hear of a reply from them.

@summer and Endphase, thanks! @summer may I ask what type of meeting you’re having with Castillo, advising? If possible can you ask if they’ll be notifying us in time for housing apps on May 7?

Sorry @backtosocal! I didn’t read this before I had my meeting! I would suggest calling admissions to see what the process is for transfer housing.

Yes, I was having an advising meeting to go over my credits and ask about admissions decisions. Here is what I found out:

I was able to be put on a “priority” admissions list, where my application will be reviewed within the next few weeks, as I have 2 other schools I need to tell if I’m attending by then. If you are in a similar situation I would suggest calling admissions and asking them to be reviewed ASAP. For those of you not, they said the bulk of decisions generally come out around the end of may and throughout june.

As far as stats, last year the average gpa of accepted transfers was about a 3.2. The higher your gpa and the more credits you have taken, the more competitive you are.

Financial aid will be made available about 2 weeks after a decision is made on your application. Transfers are only considered for need based aid.

@summer wow thanks for all the info! I’m in the same boat with deadlines.

Question: how many units are all of you guys transferring with? It sounds like USD prefers 2 years of college before transferring ?

Thanks Summer! That really helps.

@backtosocal 50+ units

32 units here and got accepted. Just keep your gpa above the median 3.2 transfer gpa and you should be fine. It also helps to complete your English requirement as well as your math.

I only have 14 units, 17 in progress, that’s probably the reason I was asked for mid-year grades.

@ above I had 17 units and I have 15 in progress now. I just sent in a mid term report a couple weeks ago because I thought it was mandatory. I did, however, have all A’s on the report, so that’s what probably got me the acceptance.

@endphase is right…english and math requirements are important to them. It was literally the first thing they asked me at my meeting. Apparently they prefer college algebra or calculus over statistics or other math course, in case you were wondering.

I have 90 units with 20 in progress currently, 3.4 gpa (set to rise this semester).

Glad to hear others are in the 30 unit range :slight_smile: I submitted my mid-term grades back in March as soon as they were available since it was required. What’s everyone’s major? I’m Com and Business.

I’m comm too! and planning to do a minor in peace and justice studies
