So I am finishing my transfer essay, I will be answering this prompt:
“What contemporary issue or trend relating to politics, culture, society, or foreign policy particularly concerns you and why?”
I was raised in a polyamorous household, and I identify as polyamorous, so I wrote on the subject of polygamy being unrecognized and illegal in the United States.
I’m wondering if I should scrap it, as this is still a very stigmatized, taboo topic and is also denunciated in Catholicism. I happen to be very passionate about it though. Is using this topic is not the best idea, especially for a religious school like BC?
Don’t listen to anyone who says write about this topic. This is a jesuit school, and that topic will give you no shot. Some things you just don’t discuss in an essay topic. In Ethical Issues in Heatlh at Boston College, they pretty much said NO to In Vitro Fertilization, NO to abortion after rape, and NO to any sort of assisted suicide. So if you think this topic is something which BC will want to hear about your side of it, your crazy.
I think that you should turn use it. If it is well written and shows your true feelings it will only help show admissions who you are. However, it may be a good idea to consider if you are comfortable going to a school where many people are opposed to an issue that you are so passionate about. I hope it all goes well, good luck!
Thanks folks! I think I will take the risk and send it. I like BC from what I’ve read and heard from a few of my professors who are BC alumni. Despite being nonreligious, I agree the Jesuit ideals and education style.
GnocchiB, polyamory is an overarching term that refers to any intimate relationship(s) involving more than one person. Polygamy is purely pertains to marriages with more than two people in them.
