Ok..I was just wondering if it is ok to use the same essay for all of the college supplements? They basically all ask the same thing "Why do you want to transfer to ___ university, and how can ____ university help you achieve your goals." So...is it ok to use the same essay on all of the supplements? I would change them around to fit each school, but the essay would basically be the same.
I just wonder cause...since it's the common app...I dunno..can they read what I sent other schools in the supplement section and know I reused my essay? Sounds weird, but I dunno.

Eh...Bump?

I had a friend who did that. He ended up sending his Duke essay to Duke and this other random school on accident. He got into both so I don't think it made that much of a difference. Then again if he ended up sending Duke his essay for that other school..who knows if he would have gotten in.. (He wasn't a transfer...if that is relevant?) A new essay for each school would be best I would think but if you don't want to I suppose you don't have to. Just be careful and proof read to make sure there is no mention of other schools.

I think having the basic structure, the "why transfer" and some other elements of the essay be the same for different schools is fine, fine, fine.

But I do think it is valuable to show specific knowledge of how the new transfer school fits you better (certain major, certain research institutes, special programs or ECs...), so that part would need to be customized which is what I think you mean by "change things around to fit the school."

Schools don't mind if you even make the mistake everytime refers to - ie, forgetting to change the name form "Duke" to "Penn" or whatever. They know these mistakes happen and people who make them get in anyway. Best not to make that mistake, though. You'll sleep better :).
