transfer financial aid

Is it true that transfer students get much less financial aid?

I don’t think anyone really gets Financial Aid

I think it generally depends on the school… I’ve heard some schools giving nothing… and some school giving incredible amounts of FA

I don’t think there’s a general rule

But from what I’ve learned about SUNY schools… Not many people get financial aid unless they are in DESPERATE need of it

somebody might know about Binghamton in particular though. I just know a few people who got financial aid from others schools… in one case a full ride to Lafayette College
and nothing from Binghamton

im specifically wondering about suny bing, considering im strongly considering transferring there as a sophomore.

well unless you have great financial need, I don’t think you’ll get grants from SUNY Binghamton. I know kids who’ve gotten close to a full ride on need-based grants to private schools like Providence, Lafayette, and Fordham who didn’t get any money at all from Binghamton. But the tuition is so cheap as it is. Most people just get stafford loans. Plus the scholarships are very competitive.

would there be aid given for good academics?

How good are your academics?

3.7/8 from fordham university

SUNY schools have a small amount of academic scholarships and the federal need based aid. That is all.

That is a great GPA. I’m actually waiting to hear back from Fordham… probably won’t go though because I’ve learned they are tragically stingy

I’ve heard of people getting scholarships from Binghamton and Geneseo of less than 5 thousand but thats about all

Unless your families income is VERY low… I don’t think you’ll get much more than that

but total cost with room and board for In State is 18,000
so its pretty affordable as is

thats the thing. Fordham I pay 13 grand so I’m hoping bing would be atleast around 10

Pinky - Truthfully, I highly doubt Binghamton is going to come out less.

Binghamton primarily gives aid based upon financial NEED. Generally, Binghamton reserves merit-based scholarships for students who have demonstrated excellence after their freshman year.

Basically, they want to be sure you can succeed in a college environment before you receive aid from a variety of sources.
