Transfer for Theatre

I was accepted into NYU Steinhardt last year for music, but I decided that Theatre is what I really want to do (and what I’m better with), and what with the cost of NYU I decided not to go (I couldn’t attend if I didn’t do music)

I’m currently a freshman theatre major at James Madison University and I was wondering what the process would be like trying to transfer into Tisch for next year (NOT Musical Theatre). Is it possible? Is financial aid available? Would I have to stay a 5th year (which I probably can’t afford!)?

Thanks!

I am in a similar boat...I am currently a freshman at NYU College of Arts and Sciences but am taking one acting class through the Open Arts Curriculum at Tisch. I am realizing more and more that acting is the only thing I want to do--and now wish that I had just applied to Tisch, but I wanted to ensure that I got into NYU and I knew how difficult it is to be accepted into Tisch...

Anyway, it was a stupid decision. But now I would like to transfer for next year into the Strausberg studio (film and television). I think that it's possible that you wouldn't have to stay a fifth year...Tisch students need to take a certain number of liberal arts classes as part of a core curriculem, so if your credits transfer to NYU, you can knock those off. and fourth year tisch students don't do studio training, so you could just do studio sophomore, junior, and senior year instead and be one year behind on that but still finish in four years. I am not positive about anything, however, so I would try to talk to a representative.

and of course financial aid is always available...
