Hi all, I am currently a first year at UCLA. After doing some research, i found out that a Business Econ major from UCLA is not enough to land me a marketing job, which is something i really want to pursue. I am now trying to transfer to Marshall for a B.S in Business Admin with concentration in marketing. Can i get some advice on transferring from you guys? Should I take a bunch of easy classes and keep my GPA high?

i highly doubt marketing requires a marketing degree
and for marshall you need to take the prereqs and get good grades in those (accounting, econ, math)

Biz/Econ isn’t enough to get you a marketing job? Am I missing something?

What research have you done that gets you to this conclusion? While I’m certainly a USC fan, it’s hard to see how a Brewin Biz/Econ degree precludes you from getting a marketing job.

Regardless, if you want a career in marketing then let me suggest that your first client be yourself. Which would be the more attractive “product” - the student who took all easy classes and got good grades or the student who completed the prerequisites, challenged him/herself and got good grades?

I’ve seen data and talked with alums(high school teacher) who graduated from USC and worked for dreamwork’s marketing branch. While i know that other majors can get into marketing it seems that the bulk of people in marketing graduated with a B.S in business admin with concentration in marketing. The reason why I’m leaning towards USC even though it is more expensive than UC is because I consider the move an investment. If I can get a good job straight out of undergrad then the 60K per year sticker price is totally worth it.
