I am trying to prepare now, and I know as sophomore transfer high school stats are very important as is college gpa. My question is how important is extracurriculars in college? I plan to be involved, but always wondered there importance. Many I have spoke to say worry about college gpa, but like purely hypothetically if over summer a person went out of country to do a community service project or something, would that help at all?

Not planning on doing this personally but wasn't sure if in transfer admissions it is same as freshman where a unique activity can help boost chances if grades are on par with the median.

Thanks for any help

Transfer and fr admissions are similar in that:

FIRST you must be competitive academically.

THEN you must stand out and be interesting via your ECs.

“Choose your activities because they really delight, intrigue and challenge you, not because you think they’ll look impressive on your application. Go out of your way to find projects, research, activities, internships, and experiences that stimulate your creativity and leadership, that connect you with peers who bring out your best, that please you so much you don’t mind the work involved. Some students find room for many activities; others prefer to concentrate on just a few. Either way, the test for any extracurricular should be whether it makes you happy - whether it feels right for you.”
